Saxophone Ensemble,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755338 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. 81 pages. Sy Brandon #6619959. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755338). Hope Collage was commissioned in honor of Hope College's 14th President, Matthew Scogin. President Scogin was inaugurated in 2019 and exemplifies the qualities of hope represented in this piece. The first movement Castles In The Sky is in 6/8 meter with some of the syncopated rhythmic figures that pit 3/4 against the 6/8. The major tonality is disguised by chromaticism either in the melody or in the counterpoint and harmony. The form is basically AB with a Coda. The slow second movement A Light at the End of the Tunnel has the tenor and baritone saxophones representing the darkness of the tunnel using minor and slightly dissonant harmony. The light at the end of the tunnel is represented by the alto and soprano saxophones. Even though they are still in minor, their brightness and rising arpeggios represent a glimmer of hope. By the time the movement nears the end, optimism has taken over and the entire ensemble is in shifting major tonalities leading up to the quiet, yet, prayerful end in B major. The third movement Knock On Wood has a Scherzo quality and is at an allegro tempo. The opening theme sets the tone of optimism with its combination of quartal, quintal, and triadic harmony along with staccato articulation. It is answered by the saxophones doing rhythmic slap tongue in a pyramid formation that represents knocking on wood. The theme and its variations alternate with the slap tongue throughout most of the movement. In several places, the theme and slap tongue appear in canon. Towards the end, the theme becomes fragmented and the slap tongue dominates. The fragments become pieced together leading to a final outburst of 16th note joy before the last chord. The movement ends with foot stomps that rhythmically suggests knock on wood. The last movement Promised Land is in two parts. The first is meditative and prayer-like in a moderate tempo. It has a passacaglia bass line and contrapuntal lines are added above it. It also grows in intensity until it reaches the Allegro, which is the second part and is celebratory. The Allegro begins with a sixteenth note motif that plays an accompaniment role in many places throughout the last section to the slower moving declarative lines. Near the end, motifs from the Moderato section are transformed in the Allegro, therefore linking the two sections.

Bass Guitar TAB - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1471949 By Tracy Dean McCallum. By Tracy Dean McCallum. Arranged by Tracy Dean McCallum. 20th Century,Jazz,Rock. Score. 1 pages. Tracy Dean McCallum #1049582. Published by Tracy Dean McCallum (A0.1471949). https://tracymccallum.com Spy Plane: A Groovy Bass Odyssey Strap on your headphones and prepare for takeoff, because this bass transcription of Spy Plane is about to take you on a funky, high-altitude mission. The groove is undeniably cool, a blend of tight pocket playing and adventurous improvisation. Gear Up: The bass line lays down a solid foundation with a picked eighth-note pattern. Imagine a sleek spy plane cruising steadily at altitude. The root notes likely shift between the E and A strings, outlining the chords with a focus on the lower register. Think of it as the pilot navigating through different airspaces. Throughout the song, there are gonna be some syncopated accents thrown in. These are like the plane making sharp maneuvers, adding surprise and a touch of swagger to the groove. Into the Danger Zone: As the song progresses, the bass line breaks free from the simple pattern. Get ready for some walking bass lines that weave through the chords, creating a sense of urgency and intrigue. Think of the pilot dodging enemy radar or chasing a target through a maze of clouds. Lock On! The coolest part of the transcription might be the use of effects. A touch of wah-wah can simulate the plane breaking the sound barrier, while some octaver adds a growling, mechanical feel, like the whirring of powerful engines. Mission Complete: The ending brings the bass line back to earth with a flourish. Perhaps a descending chromatic line to depict the plane landing safely, or a series of funky slides for a more playful touch. This is just a roadmap, pilot! Feel free to add your own improvisational flourishes, double stops to mimic dogfights, or slap techniques for some extra punch. The sky's the limit (or rather, the atmosphere) with this Spy Plane bass transcription. Ready to take flight? Grab your bass and get groovin'!

Percussion (one player: vibraphone, marimba, cymbals, tom-tom, etc.). Advanced soprano saxophone and percussion - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q54669 Composed by Bertold Hummel. This edition: performance score. Cymbal sound - multiphonic. Downloadable, Performance score. Volume op. 88a. Duration 8 minutes. Advance Music GmbH - Digital #Q54669. Published by Advance Music GmbH - Digital (S9.Q54669). The overall form of this work in one movement is in seven sections. A slow introduction begins with multiphonics of the saxophone and sounds of cymbals played with a double-bass bow. Vibraphone and marimbaphone provide the chordal foundation for a fanfare-like invocation by the saxophone. The atmosphere of the following Allegro is dominated by an ostinato series of notes taken from the chords of the introduction and played by the marimbaphone; over this, starting from a four-note series, the saxophone develops jazz-influenced figures. The constructional elements are worked into a cadenza-like section, followed by an arioso passage, leading over lightly-pulsating sounds to a final climax with a B-A-C-H (B flat - A - C - B) quotation in the saxophone. Once again, it continues with a cadenza-like section. Slap in the saxophone and stopped notes in the vibraphone and marimbaphone introduce new ideas and sonorities for discussion, the constructional elements are played off against each other in a loose sequence. At the end of this second cadenza, the B-A-C-H (B flat - A - C - B) quotation re-appears in the saxophone. A varied reprise of the first Allegro section leads to a concluding passage, taking up the atmosphere of the introduction, combined however with clear references to the four-note series of the Allegro. The interval of a third is heard and remains hovering in the air to the very end, closing the work in pianissimo.

Published by Homco/Crinion (A0.1458529). Chattahoochee was released in 1993 by country artist Alan Jackson, who was trying to write an up-tempo song. Well, it turned out to be not only up-tempo - but toe-tapping, knee-slapping, mutton-busting, fun-loving - and a bonafide quintessential country music anthem! It is also a nostalgic song, as it looks back at cherished childhood memories and seeks to connect with simpler times. This String Trio arrangement provides all 3 string instruments with a grand time fiddling around!

Trumpet Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018953 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 1 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078693. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018953). Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Percussion Solo,Timpani - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018954 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 1 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078699. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018954). Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1201702 Composed by Brandon Nelson. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,World. Score and part. 24 pages. Brandon Nelson #800317. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.1201702). Jogo de Cartas is Portuguese for “card game.†I opted for the Portuguese to honor my patron for this piece, tenor saxophonist Philippe Trovão of Lisbon. In this work, I celebrate four favorite card games.War is a relatively simple game in which each player is dealt half of the deck. The players play one card and the player with the larger card value wins the “battle.†If both players play an identical value, a “war†is started. There are variations on the game at this point, but in one popular version, each player places three cards face down then play another card face up—whichever player has the highest card takes all the cards. The object is to win all of the cards in the deck. In this musical setting, the sax and piano are each a “player,†and each plays cards (translated into rhythmic values) with the conflict and victory painted in dynamic, sometimes dissonant vitality. In Solitaire, the sax plays alone as one plays this game alone. And, just as in the game, each phrase (or suit-based pile) becomes longer, more complex, and ends in an excited flurry of activity as “victory “ is achieved! The third movement, Blackjack, illustrates the deceptively-simple game of chance, with gradually ebbing and flowing tension until, in this case, the (sax) player takes the hand. The number 21 features prominently in the construction principles of the movement as a hand totaling 21 is considered the best in the game. The finale is a wild ride portraying a newer card game called Egyptian Rat Screw. In this colorful and fast-paced game, players flip one card up in turn, continuing to do so until one player puts down a face card. The next player then has several chances (based on the specific face card played) to match or beat that card. In a interesting quirk, if two players play cards of equal rank, the player who “slaps†the card pile first wins all of the cards in the pile. This unique game was fertile ground for musical interplay, illustrating both the back-and-forth and the more aggressive aspects of play!
