Roger Quilter is one of England's finest art song composers and his songs have remained firmly in the vocal repertoire since their appearance early in the 20th century. In these songs he demonstrates an extraordinary skill in setting English poetry and shows what can be achieved in the miniature form. Specially compiled to mark the 50th anniversary of the composer's death this new collection includes well-known favourites alongside works which have been unavailable for many years and three previously unpublished songs. This is the low Voice edition containing arrangements for Low and Mens? voices.

Violets was written in 1927. It is a setting of a poem by George Meredith (1828-1909) and has been arranged here for High Voice with Piano accompaniment.Muriel Herbert (1897-1984) was a British composer pianist and singer. She studied at the Royal College of Music where she met Charles Stanford and Roger Quilter. She wrote many songs for Voice and Piano in her early life as well as some instrumental and orchestral works but stopped composing after her husband left her in 1939. Her works were largely unappreciated until twenty years after her death but they have now quite rightly been the subject of a keen and enthusiasticrevival with a growing fan base.

Arrangement For Voice and String Orchestra- Five Shakespearean songs by Roger Quilter arranged for voice (baritone) and string orchestra by John Macfarlane. The songs were selected from three of Quilter’s vocal albums (opp 6 23& 30) the texts being the same as those as set by Gerald Finzi in Let us Garlands Bring.
