As far as we know Vivaldi wrote twenty trio sonatas. Several of these works are actually for two parts, as the continuo merely doubles one of the two solo instruments. In the titles of four of these trio sonatas ('Suonata da camera, a 2 violini anco senza basso se piace', meaning if desired the sonata can be played without the bass part) Vivaldi himself gave his approval to the omission of the third instrument. In the light of this, the present publication gives the four works in the form of violin duos.We recommend these three-movement sonatas, in a fast-slow-fast format, for violinists who are already advanced in their studies. 1. At first sight, this publication appears to merely be a collection of pieces due to the lack of drier technical studies that are characteristic of tutors. Yet the selection of the works, their order according to the development of ensemble playing, and the advice towards technical realization included after the foreword - these all make this publication a tutor. The works form a cross-section of a longer period of the history of chamber music and offer an insight into the different methods of composition.Volume II introduces the Baroque trio sonata through the works of the greatest masters (Vivaldi, Corelli, Albinoni, F. Couperin, Purcell and Bach). The two violin parts do not gobeyond the 3rd position nor the cello parts beyond the 4th position.

Among the easy and small-scale movements (at most 28 measures long), the most quintessential dances of the Baroque era are represented.Some of these compositions can be played after a mere 3 years of instrumental study, therefore music students can use them as an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the fundamentals of baroque style.
