Written especially for older elementary choirs and younger youth choirs (grades 4-8) The Light Before Christmas celebrates Advent's joyful anticipation of Christ's birth. The five candles of the Advent wreath provide thecentral focus for this service of light that culminates in the lighting of the Christ candle and the arrival of Christmas. Highlighting Advent's messages of hope peace joy and love this unique work may be presented as a fullmusical or individual songs can be performed as featured anthems during the Advent/Christmas season. New songs familiar carols and thoughtful narratives join together to create a truly memorable worship experience filled withthe expectation of Christ's coming and the celebration of His birth. Howard Arman, director of the Bavarian Radio Choir, has been actively engaged with international Christmas carols through various Christmas-related CD productions of his choir in the past years. This has resulted in a number of original arrangements for four- to eight-part mixed choir a cappella, shedding new light on well-known classics such as O du fröhliche [O, you joyful], Stille Nacht [Silent Night] and Lasst uns froh und munter sein [Let us be happy and cheerful]. The first volume includes five Christmas carols from the German-speaking regions. They range from simple but harmonically intriguing settings such as Lieb Nachtigall, wach auf [Dear nightingale, wake up] to eight-part sound paintings with bell-like chimes as in O du fröhliche and classical double choir settings such as Resonet in laudibus . The second volume includes five Christmas spirituals with English texts, forming a contrast to the solemn and festive character of the first. The choir can prove its swing and jazz qualities here; the stirring arrangements are a gain for classical Christmas concerts, too. Following the tradition of the spiritual, some settings also require soloists, which can, however, also be recruited from the choir if adequate singers are available. Albert William Ketelbey (1875-1959) was a British composer pianist and conductor. He studied Piano at Trinity College of Music in London before branching out and earning a living as a composer and arranger. He became the foremost composer of cinema and light music between the wars so much so that he was hailed as ?Britain?s greatest living composer? in some circles. A Dream Of Christmas is a Yuletide fantasy and one of the composer's most popular and enduring works. It has been arranged for SSA three-part upper voice choir with Piano accompaniment by the composer.

The composer:1st movement: Reflections by the Fjord.Overlooking one of the mighty fjords of Norway my mind and thoughts are with an old religious Norwegian folk-tune with words by the famous parson Peter Dass.The majestic fanfare-likeopening reflects the power of God our Father the choral itself heard for the first time on flugelhorn. The choral is repeated a few times separated only by some short variations. The movement ends in thriumph with fanfares and the choral broughttogether.2nd movement: Reflections in the Old Church.In this movement my associations of a summer day finding myself alone in an old deserted stone church. From the old walls I hear folk songs perhaps like the ones sung in the church bypoor fishermen and farmers in days gone by. Suddenly the light from the sun breakes through the small circular window above the altar and a lovely melody is heard before the original figures take us to the end of the movement.3rd movement:Festive Reflections.Any festive occasion can be reflected in this movement. from the bonfire at midsummer-night to the children celebrating the return of the sun in the northern part of Norway. from the traditional sleigh-riding at Christmas tothe Celebrations of the National Day on the 17th of May each year.
