Early Elementary Level-Description: Purpose: I wanted young students to work on playing a smooth lyrical piece and thus improve their musicianship. Suggestions for Instruction: Practice the left-hand harmonic intervals (p.2) without the melody line naming each interval. Next try the left- and right-hand harmonic intervals on page 4. Practice the white-key arpeggios on page 3. Have the student try them without pedal at first to work on legato playing. Then add the pedal being sure to change it smoothly where indicated. After the white key arpeggios in Peaceful River are mastered the student may try all white key arpeggios ascending and descending. Discuss the dynamics on page 3. Notice thatduring the ascending arpeggio there is a crescendo and as the arpeggio descends there is a diminuendo. It is especially important that the student be taught musical sensitivity while playing this piece. Discuss the title of the piece and how the music fits the title. It has been over 20 years since I released the first volume of ?100 Ultimate Blues Riffs for Piano/Keyboards? in 1996 my most popular selling book. One of the constants has been the continued popularity of my Blues music instructional books for not only piano/keyboards but also Saxophone Flute and Guitar. Also it is the 50th anniversary since I started to learn to play Blues piano in 1968. I have again created 100 Blues riffs with many of them having elements of Rock Funk Country Jazz Boogie-Woogie Gospel and Latin styles. The riffs are in the order that I composed them giving you the learner an element of surprise as to what the next riff is going to sound like. Each of the 100 riffs have been recorded twice the 1st time the piano part with a rhythm backing track and the 2nd time a rhythm backing track to practice playing along with. I have also created a separate play-a-long track that consists of 10 choruses of the 12 Bar Blues progression. Maurice Ravel's Gaspard De La Nuit is one of the most important Piano works of the 20th century and constitutes the height of the extension of the pianistic playing techniques and tonal possibilites which was already begun by Chopin and Liszt in the 19th century. The three movements Ondine Le Gibet and Scarbo are based on poems by Aloysius Bertrand which Ravel put in front of each of the three pieces.
