L'unique duo (officiel) de ma production fut composé au Danemark, longtemps après son quatuor aîné Côté Sud . L'unité de lieu, déterminante comme on le devine d'après le titre, a donc guidé mes pas et mon inspiration dans la composition de cette pièce un peu à part dans mon catalogue. D'un langage alternant entre atonalité, bitonalité et polyrythmie, Côté Nord est une immersion dans un univers de couleurs et de timbres, de dialogues irréels entre scordaturas instantanées et harmoniques, de rythmes bancals ponctués de burlesques dissonances et de taping. Ainsi décrite, on comprendra qu'elle requière de la part des deux interprètes, outre d'indispensables qualités techniques, de véritables talents de mise en ondes et j'allais dire de mise en scène - Exécutée pour la première fois à Cannes en 1993 (j'eus alors l'honneur d'être aux côtés de mon maître Alberto Ponce), cette oeuvre, commande du festival Cannes Guitare Passion , doit principalement son succès au duo Assad, auquel elle est dédiée et qui, peu de temps après, en fit la création danoise à Hillerød, non loin de Copenhague.
