The set of parts for Maurice Ravel's Introduction And Allegro For Harp Flute Clarinet And String Quartet a lesser-known work by the French composer completed in 1905.

Pour Quator á Cordes-Born in 1947 Laurent Duvillier-Wable trained under pianist Suzanne Joly and studied composition with Michel Puig. The latter a student of Ren? Leibowitz introduced him to the mysteries of Sch?nberg and Webern's twelve-note composition. To create a coherent œuvre Duvillier-Wable drew on the array of possibilities offered by chamber music in his series of six Sonatas composed between 1992 and 2007. Sonata IV For String Quartet was written in 1994 the year his father – painter Ren? Duvillier a friend of Charles Estienne and Andr? Breton – fell gravely ill. Divided into four movements thecomposition contains two beautifully expressive musical references: the Lamento religioso refers to Bach's Passion according to Saint Matthew by quoting the choral 'Was ist die Ursache aller solcher Plagen' (No.19: What is the cause of all this suffering?) when Jesus distressed by his imminent agony asks his disciples to watch over him. The Agitato final borrows the inexorable 'Must it be? It must!' theme from Beethoven's Quartet No.16 in F that crowns this poignant work.

The second of the Quartets commissioned by the Naxos label was completed in January 2003. This work swings between nervous virtuosic energy to the serene calm of an extended Lento with exotic harmonies reminiscent of Bartok andis characterised by it's sharp and unpredictable contrasts. First performed by the Maggini Quartet on 11 July 2003 at the Pittville Pump Room Cheltenham as part of the Cheltenham International Festival. This is the set ofparts. Quartet in C Minor is in four movements with a total duration of about 25 minutes. The opening Allegro is Dvorák-ish in its lyricism though there is a darker more brooding atmosphere towards the close. It is tempting to detect a hint of folk-song in the theme of the Andantino played by the Viola but that may be stretching hindsight too far. The movement has a wistful melancholy that carries over into the following Intermezzo a song-like episode containing some of the most virtuosic writing in the work. The last movement is a theme and six variations with a fugal ending. The theme is ballad-like with a suggestion of 18th-century elegance. Modality creeps into thesecond Adagio variation and there is rhythmic exhilaration in the succeeding Presto. What can be admired in this attractive quartet is its conciseness. This String Quartet was his first major composition of any kind.

Score and Parts-Karel Husa is a Czech composer the bulk of whose career took place in the last half of the twentieth century. The Sonata A Tre is for Violin Clarinet and Piano and was premiered in Hong Kong in 1982 by the Verdehr Trio.It is an exciting and virtuosic piece which explores new sounds and techniques both on individual instruments and as an ensemble.

For Solo Violin-Gallery (Room 1) is a fantastic set of miniatures beautifully composed by Sadie Harrison. Sadie was inspired by Peter Sheppard Skaerved’s exceptional artwork. The pieces have been written so they can be performed in any order just as a viewer could choose their various paths through a gallery. Gallery (Room 1) has been written conveying expressions of imagined narratives personal responses to the art's kaleidoscopic references their vivacity drama and quiet beauty. Gallery has been dedicated to Peter Sheppard Skaerved’s in admiration and with thanks for so many wonderfulyears of collaboration.

Among the best of Jean Sibelius’ oeuvre are his 1917 compositions The Humoresques. This fabulous and charming concerto was divided into two groups for publication Opus 87 and Opus 89 and demonstrates his sublime skill with the Violin. He uses a considerably smaller Orchestra accompaniment to the Violin in the second group but maintains the subtlety of depth and texture. The opening bars of the Fifth Humoresque act as a continuation of the minor tonality that dominated the previous two pieces but the music soon reverts into a warmer major mood. Op.89 No.3 is the highlight of this group and one of Sibelius' most immediately compelling creations.
