In 2015 this musical tale for Narrator Children’s Choir and Instrumental Accompaniment was awarded the “Music for Young Performers Prize” by the French Music Publishers Association. Both in the French version and MarciMeth’s excellent English translation it provides the material for an enthralling educational adventure in which children between the ages of five and eight are invited into their first experience of opera and choir singing. With her trademark finesse and sensitivity the composer tells the story of a little girl dealing with the death of a person she’d cherished above all: her grandfather. Written for choir in unison this tale wafts shimmering melodies over an instrumental accompaniment suffused in turn with gentle melancholy and light humour. An art that speaks from an open heart. This attractive motet was written for performance alongside Brahms's Requiem following the precedent of Handel's famous setting of the same text being sung at the premiere of the Brahms in 1868. The gracefully sculpted music clothes the text with touching melodies expressive harmonies and varied sonorities.

The Same Flame was inspired by Pierre de Coubertin?s ideals of Olympism which gave rise to the modern Olympic and Paralympic values: Respect Excellence Friendship Courage Equality Determination and Inspiration. These seven values are celebrated in five movements so four of them had to double up ? Friendship with Equality and Courage with Determination. Each movement is scored for slightly different choral forces so the work is varied. Also individual movements may suit different choirs giving the opportunity for individual performance or collaboration between choirs. All fivemovements of The Same Flame are published as individual octavos. A complete vocal score is available on request from the publishers.A slower and more poignant movement Respectfully Yours takes the form of a letter from those who have long been disenfranchised and excluded ? they could be one of a number of groups! ? and who though now welcomed into the fold cannot take acceptance for granted. The memory of rejection is raw and recent. With polite reserve underwritten by passion they respectfully reaffirm their claim to be ?of the same flame?.

The Welsh traditional song Suo G n is here arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ Accompaniment by Stephen Cleobury. Written by an anonymous composer in Welsh it literally means 'Lullaby'. This beautiful arrangement is sure to be a favourite with audiences and choirs alike. It features lyrics in both English and Welsh. This traditional Welsh song has been a favourite within the repertoire for many years after having been first documented by folklorist Robert Bryan. With versions sung by Charlotte Church Katherine Jenkins and the Choir of King's College Cambridge  Suo G n is one of the most recognisable andwell-loved tunes in the Welsh and English repertoire. This new arrangement by Stephen Cleobury will be a welcome addition to any choir's performance with the combination of such a new take on an established classic with simple beautiful music.

This is preparatory material for The First Book of Solos series with modest ranges and all songs in English including very easy art songs folksong arrangements and vintage popular songs.
