Dans le cadre de l?année 2023, dédiée aux compositeurs suisses, l?Association suisse des musiques a commandé à Gauthier Dupertuis une nouvelle orchestration de l?Ouverture en Mi bémol de Stephan Jaeggi. En effet, une mise à jour de l?instrumentation était nécessaire à l?interprétation de cette ?uvre avec les orchestres modernes. Ainsi, l?orchestration que Gauthier Dupertuis propose, et qu?il a voulu fidèle à l?originale tout en répondant aux standards idiomatiques actuels, permettra aux orchestres actuels de pouvoir interpréter cette pièce d?inspiration classique-romantique. Compositeur et chef d?orchestre, Stephan Jaeggi est né en 1903 dans une famille nombreuse à Fulenbach (Canton de Soleure). Il a commencé la clarinette à 13 ans, a étudié la musique au Conservatoire de Bâle et a effectué son école de recrues au sein de la musique militaire. Une fois ses études terminées, il a dirigé plusieurs orchestres à vents. Dans ce rôle, mais aussi dans celui de compositeur, Stephan Jaeggi a accumulé les succès. Sa disparition prématurée, en 1957, a mis bien trop tôt un terme à la vie créative de Stephan Jaeggi. Øivind Westby has written a number of excellent but demanding instrumental arrangements for Concert Band. In the present one, he has transcribed five of the most famous by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) grew up near Ipanema, the famous beach in Rio de Janeiro. His big break through and most creative period came in the 50?s and 60?s which gave him the status as the greatest Brazilian composer of all times. Together with Stan Getz and João and Astrud Gilberto he recorded one of the best selling jazz-albums of all times, an album which feature several of his most famous compositions. His inspiration includes another Brazilian great; Pixinguinha, but also classical composers like Frederick Chopin and Claude Debussy. He died in NYC in 1994 after composing approx. 400 works. Par VILHELMSEN INGEBJORG. 'The Cosmographic Mystery' outlines the great mysteries and secrets of the universe. The musical foundation is a tribute to composer Gustav Holst, and his suite 'The Planets'. Each movement from the suite is quoted in the course of the piece. The title is taken from a book by the German astronomer Johannes Kepler, which was published in the 17th century. The book explains Kepler's cosmological theory that the distance relationship between the planets could be understood in light of the five Platonic solids. The theory proposes that the solids dictate the structure of the universe through geometry. 'The Cosmographic Mystery' is supported by the Norwegian Composers' Fund, and was commissioned by Oslofjord brass. / Date parution : 2023-10-31/ Répertoire / Concert Band

La courte et envoûtante vocalise est peut-être la création la plus connue d'Elena Kats-Chernin et a fait le tour du monde comme musique d'une vidéo publicitaire sur YouTube. Opera in three acts. Par STRAWINSKY IGOR. New edition of Stravinsky?s largest work, his only full-length work for the theatre, and his first major work in English. It also represents the culmination of his neoclassical years, after which he started to rethink his musical language. Inspired by an exhibition in Chicago in 1947 of a series of Hogarth prints, the depiction of the ironic progress of the spendthrift heir of a miser from wealth via debt to madness and death is, in essence, retained in the opera. Auden and Kallman's 'fable' wittily grafts onto Hogarth?s quest narrative aspects of, among other sources, Classical pastoral, the Faust legend, fairy tale, circus, the Bible and opera in many different manifestations. This is brilliantly matched by Stravinsky?s music, which takes as its source the whole of operatic history from Monteverdi to Verdi via Rossini and Donizetti and large doses of Mozart, yet it is neither parody nor pastiche.
