The Disturbing Duckling-D'Monstrantz Vöögeli (The Disturbing Duckling) by Per Nørgård. Text (sung in German): Adolf Wölfli (1864-1930).Programme note:'D´Monstrantz Vöögeli' is the main (and middle) movement of my three-movement choir suite 'The Alarming Duckling' the title of which is borrowed from a painting from 1959 by the Danish artist Asger Jorn apainting which - as this choral piece - is partly based on 'found objects': Asger Jorn painted on top of an idyllic old fashioned landscape painting with a house and trees - and he painted a very disturbing alarming duckling. It may be ugly the duckling but in any case it is most peculiar in its surroundings with spontaneous colorful wide painted feathers standing and looking dreamy beyond a birch in the golden light of the afternoon (a very big duckling indeed!) In 'D´Monstrantz Vöögeli' the dark nightly visions are unfolding with texts by the Swiss schizophrenic artist Adolf Wölfli (1864-1930). His transcending poems prose paintings and ideas inspired me for many compositions in the 1980s i.e. Symphony nr. 4 ('Indischer Roosen-Gaarten und Chinesischer Hexensee' - Hommage a Wölfli') The opera The Divine Circus and a series of choral works. The piece is written for 12 vocal soloists - singing whistling screaming and whispering. In 'D´Monstrantz Vöögeli' - for a choir of humans and birds - many 'found objects' are used: The tape/cd only contributes with unmanufactured birdsong - even though using full half and fourth speed so it is easier to understand and learn from the brilliant birds (especially the fantastic American Musician Wren

Non-liturgical setting of the Kyrie Sanctus and Agnus Dei from the Latin Mass scored for 4-part children?s choir and full orchestra. The composer states that ?each movement is reasonably substantial with much space for the orchestral music to grow and develop [?] a lot of the vocal writing was imagined as an extension and enhancement of the orchestral palette where the young voices are ?smudged? into the orchestral sound in an impressionistic manner.?Little Mass (2014) was commissioned by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society for its 175th Anniversary the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Supported by Sally Mary andJonathan Groves to mark the centenary of Sir Charles Groves in the month he would have celebrated his 100th birthday.Suitable for intermediate standard voices and advanced standard orchestra.

Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) composed this Mass Op. 36 in 1878 for the St Sulpice church in Paris. The initial two choirs for which it was composed were comprised of around 200 and 40 voices while the score for this version is for a choir of baritones and an SATB choir. The Organ part requires an advanced-level of ability as it contains some difficult parts. Divided into five sections the entire work has been transposed one half step lower ‘to avoid the awkward key of F sharp major’. These sections are:  1. Kyrie (Moderato – F# minor) 2. Gloria (Vivace – Lento D major 3.Sanctus (Con brio A major) 4. Benedictus ( Piú lento A major) 5. Agnus Dei (Moderato F# major) This really delicate and emotive Mass Op. 36 is a piece that stands out by its majesty. Charles-Marie Widor was a great organist who did not only focus on Organ composition. From orchestra pieces to chamber music he wrote various different compositions including 10 symphonies for Organ some Operas and some Piano Concerti.
