Par BARRETT RUTH. Dulcimer Muse is a beautiful collection of fingerpicked and strummed tunes and songs arranged for the mountain dulcimer for players seeking to expand their repertoire. Thirty-one arrangements are gathered from Medieval and Renaissance eras, traditional folk music of Ireland, Scotland, England, Brittany and Spain, plus original compositions. Intended primarily for intermediate to advanced players and for some ambitious beginners, the pieces include melody lines in standard notation, mountain dulcimer tablature, with chords above most of the dulcimer tablature that can be shared with other musicians for accompaniment. Suggestions on how to play with greater musicality and ease are included. This book provides 20 beautiful Anglo-American folk songs field-collected by two remarkable real-life 'song catchers ' Josephine McGill and Loraine Wyman in the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky in 1914 and 1916. Josephine andLoraine the latter accompanied by Howard Brockway a composer and arranger were among the first persons to search for folk songs in the Southern Appalachians. The musical adventurers traveled hundreds of miles on horseback andon foot through an inaccessible world to which radios roads and cars had not yet come. They made friends in isolated log cabins and transcribed some 200 song treasures some of which they published in complex arrangements inbooks that are now out of print and rare. This book contains a selection of the songs presented with simplified musical notation guitar chords and dulcimer tablature. It also includes glowing accounts of their mountainadventures published by Josephine and Howard in long-forgotten publications; a must for all lovers of American folk music.

DAA is a beautiful tuning for the Mountain Dulcimer. This book contains 19 arrangements of traditional Irish Welsh French Canadian Scottish and American folk tunes and songs that are rich within their melodies complementedby the DAA tuning. Although the DAA tuning results in predominantly linear movement of the fingers along the frets with jumps and runs along the melody or middle string the richness of the DAA tuning more than compensatesfor extra finger movement. These arrangements are written in notation and tablature for the three-string Dulcimer with chord symbols with a mix of strumming and fingerpick/flatpick arrangements. Lyrics are included whereappropriate. Beginning level of difficulty. The companion play-along audio recording features all of the tunes in the same order as the book played by the author. Each tune name is announced and spoken countoffs andcues for repeats and are also provided. The recording will help make the unique style of the Dulcimer clear. Audio download available online.
