L’incoronazione di Poppea, Claudio Monteverdi’s final opera, had a formative impact on the evolution of this genre. Yet its convoluted source situation makes it one of music history’s great enigmas. There are practically no references to the original version that Monteverdi performed in Venice in 1643, as the score has not survived. To celebrate the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi’s birth, this operatic masterpiece is appearing in an edition close to the presumed original. The new edition is based on the score prepared in Venice and found among the possessions of Francesco Cavalli. This scholarly edition came about due to a remarkable project at the University of North Texas; it was compiled and edited by Hendrik Schulze and his students on the basis of the latest research findings concerning source evaluation, performance practice and the historical context.

Due to the small number of required instruments, this musical fairy story for children can also be performed in small rooms. Tristan Schulze who is very successful in the field of children's theatre tells the story in a modern language. The music is written in classical harmony. The four string instruments provide a musical accompaniment of or comment on the text, or let the narrated action continue to have an effect in instrumental interludes. With imagination and love of experimentation, the work can be complemented by scenic actions, pictures and performances. Thus, 'Der gestiefelte Kater' playfully introduces children to the music-theatre genre.

The G major mass of Mozart followed a very special type of mass pattern, namely, that of the Missa pastoralis. In Mozart's time it was a widespread type of mass, especially in Bohemia and Italy, in which melodies and rhythms like those familiar from pastoral Christmas music were frequently found. The themes in this type of mass are song-like and often make use of folksongs or references to well-known tunes. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app! Score and part available separately - see item CA.4062300.

Mozart excitedly reported to his father that the Comte de Guines played the flute incomparably, while his daughter was magnifique at the harp. He apparently had no reservations about writing a double concerto for this unusual scoring in Paris in 1778 and even though he had just admitted to his father that he couldnt stand the flute. It is surprising, then, that Mozart produced a singular, fairly easily performable work. Could it be that he exaggerated their technical abilities for some reason or other when he described his patrons to his father? The source situation is clear: An autograph has survived which is definitive in every respect, and can be incontestably included in a modern Urtext edition, down to the distinction between staccato dots and dashes.Cadenzas in the piano reduction by Robert D. Levin.

The Mass Rorate coeli desuper may be one of Joseph Haydn's earliest works, but its attribution to Haydn is disputed. This short mass setting is based on the complete ordinary of the mass. Because of this it is suitable both for the so-called Rorate masses (which lack the Credo) as well as for Sunday masses during Advent (which lack the Gloria). The full score contains at the same time the organ part. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4060200.
