The Moravian Duets written to Moravian folk songs with Piano accompaniment were instigated by Jan Neff an influential wholesale merchant in Prague who employed Dvorak as a Piano teacher for his family.The composer first wrote Three Duets for Soprano and Tenor with Piano accompaniment Op.20. The Neff family were delighted with them and so Dvorak continued with cycles II and III Op.32 this time for female voices.The entire collection culminated in 1877 with another four duets with Piano accompaniment published as Op.38. Instead of a simple arrangement of folk melodies Dvorak created duets based on folktexts with their own musical setting. Orgelversion-Dvorak's Mass In D Major was commissioned for the ceremonial consecration of the castle chapel at Luzany the seat of architect and benefactor Josef Hlavka.Despite this fact the Mass is nevertheless intended for performance by provincial choirs. This joyful work revealing Dvorak's intimate knowledge of rural Czech sacred music is written for solo Voices Mixed Choir and Organ.This edition contains the original version and is part ofthe first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak. The preface was written by Jarmil Burghauser.

The Piano score of the world famous Stabat Mater based on Dvorak's original Piano version was edited for publication by Jan Kachl k and Miroslav Srnka. As far as possible the urtext edition makes use of Dvorak's distinctive Piano stylisation as surviving in his own first sketch of the work from 1876. This sketch as it turned out once this source had become accessible is in fact a complete seven-movement Piano version with all solo and choral parts. The degree to which this source has been developed and its relative completeness suggest that the composer had originally been forced to resign himself to a performance of the workonly with soloists choir and Piano. In the years 1876-1877 however Dvorak's career evidently took a turn for the better as he found himself increasingly in greater demand. He expanded the cantata by a further three movements and later orchestrated the entire work. This edition serves on the one hand as a legitimate Piano reduction of the existing edition of the final orchestral version and on the other together with the revision commentary and facsimile appendices it also provides an overall picture of the original Piano version for the first time - in particular the seven movements from 1876. The musical setting of the Latin hymn Te Deum laudamus was written shortly before Dvorak's departure for America. This text meant a lot to the composer and in his conception the work brings together the sacred music tradition so familiar to Dvorak from Czech church choirs and the majestic oratorio style.The Piano reduction based on the critical edition of the score was produced by Karel Solc. (ISB) Grade 8 - Trinity-Guildhall /ABRSM Rudolf Tulacek was one of the leading Czech double bassists of his generation and was a respected and influential teacher at the Janacek Academy of Music in Brno. He was born in Jicin Bohemia on 25 August 1885 and began to study the double bass at the age of eleven having already studied flute and violin. So rapid was his progress that he soon became a member of the Jicin Municipal Orchestra and in 1901 entered the Prague Academy of Music to study with Frantisek Cerny one of the Czech capital's leading bassists and teachers. Tulacek graduated in 1907 with the highest commendations from his professors performing the Geissel Concerto at his public graduation concert and in 1909 was offered the post of Solo Bassist in the Zagreb Opera Orchestra. From 1920 he was also a Professor at the Zagreb State Academy of Music and subsequently became Concert-Master of the Zagreb Philharmonic. His many recitals attest to his perfect technique supreme musicality and complete command of the instrument and concerts included music by Cerny Dvorak Geissel Kukla Láska Misek Simandl Stein and Tenaglia alongside his own compositions. In 1937 Tulacek became Professor of Double Bass at the Brno Academy of Music and in 1948 became the first Double Bass Professor at the newly founded

This edition contains Dvorak's own arrangement of Silent Woods for Cello and Piano taken from No.5 from the Piano cycle for four hands From Sumava. The composer decided to write this arrangement when he was preparing for a concert tour of Czech and Moravian towns and cities in 1892 as a gesture of farewell before his departure for America.
