for Violin and Piano-Brahms had already announced his ?retirement? from composition when in the spring of 1894 he played chamber music with the cellist Robert Hausmann and the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld. This encounter apparently renewed his enthusiasm for Mühlfeld?s much admired playing and inspired him to write two Clarinet sonatas in the summer of the same year.Brahms conceived an alternate version of the works for Viola from the beginning and already before the publication of these two versions he intended to do another one for Violin a version which was to require changes and was to result in an independent edition. While the Clarinet and Viola versions havedeveloped a rich performance tradition the Violin version is almost unknown. Yet for the Violin version the composer revised the original Clarinet part much more extensively than he did for the Viola version and also rewrote the Piano part to achieve a thoroughly convincing Violin and Piano idiom. Revised edition of HN 120-Johannes Brahms presumably wrote the Fantasies op. 116 at the same time as the Intermezzi op. 117 in the summer of 1892 in Bad Ischl. His sojourn in the Salzkammergut obviously inspired Brahms to write music for solo piano asa year later he worked on other cycles when he was there. Amongst these late melancholy piano pieces op. 116 is in particular characterised by opposites. Four “dreamy” – according to Clara Schumann –intermezzi are juxtaposed with three “deeply passionate” capricci. Seven pieces in true Brahms’ style which are also accessible to non-virtuosos due to their medium level of difficulty. Our revision contains themusical text of the new Brahms Complete Edition.

Composed at the start of his career in 1852-3 Johannes Brahms' Piano Sonatas were amongst the 20-year-old composer's first publications. It is the slow movement of the Piano Sonata In C Major Op.1 which uses the song 'Verstohlen geht der Mond auf' that bears the earliest date April 1852.With this passionate and highly virtuosic Sonata Brahms introduced himself to the great of the musical world of his day including the Schumanns in Düsseldorf. Clara Schumann wrote afterwards that '... the whole is full of exuberant fantasy intimacy of expression and mastery of form'.Brahms' Op. 1 now appears in a separateHenle Urtext edition revised using the musical text of the Brahms Complete Edition. Brahms Opus 40. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES / HOUBEN KEVIN (Arr.). Johannes Brahms peut être considéré comme l'un des meilleurs compositeurs de musique de chambre du XIXe siècle. Il était un géant dans ce domaine et un digne successeur de Beethoven et de Haydn. Le Trio en Mib opus 40 pour piano, violon et cor naturel est un chef-d'œuvre de sa musique de chambre. En 1865, l'année de ce trio, la mère de Brahms, Christiane, meurt. On sait qu'il avait des sentiments profonds pour elle. Le mouvement lent porte l’indication de tempo Adagio Mesto (triste) et peut être considéré comme un chant de lamentation pour sa mère. L'œuvre a été exécutée pour la première fois le 28 novembre 1865 à Zurich et a été publiée un an plus tard, en novembre 1866. Dans cette version pour orchestre d’harmonie, Kevin Houben reste aussi fidèle que possible à l'original. Le résultat est une orchestration profonde et sombre du merveilleux Adagio Mesto.
