Bach composed his 15 Two-Part Inventions or as he called them Sinfonias for Keyboard at the same time as their 15 Three-Part Counterparts. They are designed to as Bach himself says: 'To play cleanly in two voices...(and) deal correctly with three obbligato voices...but above all else to acquire a true cantabile style of playing and with it to get a good foretaste of the art of composition'.

Le 10e volume de la Sonate per clavicembalo de Domenico Scarlatti représente un jalon crucial de cette série, à savoir les trente Essercizi per gravicembalo (Londres, 1738-1739) au c?ur de la production du compositeur. Pendant longtemps, le style de ces sonates et leur rôle dans l'histoire de la musique pour clavier ont été débattus. Mais personne n'avait jamais examiné à fond les aspects clés de la critique textuelle, conçue non seulement comme une reconstruction détaillée du texte, mais comme une étude philologique avec une portée complète. Ce volume est le premier pas dans cette direction. Le texte musical de cette édition est le résultat d'une comparaison systématique de toutes les sources imprimées et manuscrites du XVIIIe siècle préservant les précieux Essercizi de Scarlatti. Dans certains cas, l'édition présente une version alternative de la même sonate, basée sur l'examen des sources et montrant parfois un réseau complexe de variantes d'auteur. Les Notes Critiques détaillées prennent en compte toutes les variantes transmises par les sources. De nombreux sujets sont abordés dans la riche Introduction, en premier lieu le contexte historique et la genèse des sonates de Scarlatti. The complete Harpsichord work - Volume 2 by Louis Couperin is the second of a series of volumes with suites for Harpsichord. Composed in a Baroque style the whole series features 133 pieces for advanced players. Louis Couperin (1626-1661) was a French composer and performer who created many pieces for Organ and for Harpsichord who later became musician at the court. He invented the genre of Unmeasured Prelude for which he created a form of notation where the harpsichordist can choose how long each note lasts. François Couperin Louis’ nephew is also a very famous musician who played the Harpsichord.

In addition to these two contemporary versions this edition also contains an arrangement by the editor for Harpsichord or Organ based on the first edition. Though both early sources explicitly mention a Harpsichord the arrangements can also be performed effectively note-for-note on the Organ. As the surviving anonymous version merely places a solo part and a figured Bass on a two-stave system our edition is accompanied by performance material with one part each for transverse Flute/Oboe/Violin and Violoncello/Double Bass plus a figured Bass realisation.
