Harpsichord work - Volume 4 LP.24 by Francois Couperin is the fourth in a series of 4 volumes of suites for Harpsichord. Published in 1930 three years before Couperin’s death when he was very ill this volume initially presented some small mistakes and some white pages. It features seven Ordres from the 20th to the 27th with a total of 43 pieces. For upper-intermediate players this volume was edited by Kenneth Gilbert. François Couperin was a very famous French composer who played the Harpsichord the Organ. Coming from a famous family of musicians he was nicknamed“Couperin le Grand” ('Couperin the Great').

These three volumes together contain 36 Nordic folk songs from Denmark Norway Sweden Finland and theFaroe Islands. Good sight-reading training is therefore ensemble playing where the teacher supports the pulse and rhythm.In many other publications of four-handed duets the secundo part is written in two bass clefs and the primo part in twotreble clefs. Reading this untrained combination of clefs along with the stressful fact that the music has never beenseen nor heard before can confuse the pupil.In volumes 1 and 2 the secundo part which is intended for the pupil is therefore notated in a treble clef and bassclef as piano music for two hands is usually notated. In volume 3 the degree of difficulty is more varied but in mostof the pieces improvisation is an interposed element in the primo part being therefore a good challenge for the pupil.In the improvisatory sections a chord or a scale is notated. Kietzer's Clarinettist's Progress Op.91 contains in three volumes melodic and technical exercises to help develop and secure technique. This first volume is ideal for clarinettist's who are at an intermediate level of playing however these exercises are also excellent for advanced players.
