Mompou Joaquin Turina was the only one to devote a considerable part of his compositional talents to chamber music. Like each of the aforementioned composers he lived and studied music in Paris where he was encouraged by the likes of D’Indy Ravel and Debussy. In this brief tone poem for string quartet La Oración del Torero 'The Bullfighter’s Prayer' the influence of Debussy can be heard especially in the use of lush descending parallel ninth chords. The influence of music of the Andalusian Gypsies is also quiteevident. This piece became one of the composer’s most popular works often performed in an arrangement for string orchestra.

“In this work I gave everything I had to give. […] What I did here I will never do again”. Camille Saint-Saëns was justifiably proud of his Symphony No.3 in C minor Op.78 dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt. Like Beethoven’s Ninth this so-called “Organ Symphony” was commissioned by the Philharmonic Society in London where it received its premiere on 19 May 1886. Overture From The Tempest Op.109 No.1 comes from an hour-long score of incidental music for orchestra by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. In 1925 Sibelius was commissioned by the Danish Royal Theatre to create incidental music for Shakespeare's The Tempest. The resulting 34 miniatures represent Sibelius at his most modernistic and it is both rousing and powerful yet elsewhere light gentle and airy fully reflecting the breadth and depth of Shakespeare’s characters.

Toccata In D Minor is possibly one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most recognisable pieces. Here it has been arranged for Brass band in a Rock style giving the piece a more upbeat feel and creating a huge show stopper. This selection includes a full score and all of the parts needed to perform this substantial arrangement.

Dvorak's Serenade in E major for string orchestra is one of his most popular and frequently played works. It was written in the spring of 1875, when he had just experienced his first successes at the conductor's podium and had received a state arts scholarship. The score and parts were published by Bote and Bock, Berlin, in 1879. This Urtext edition is based on the composer's autograph score. It corrects mistakes found in the first edition and so, for the first time, the editor incorporates omitted passages from the autograph, marking them with Vi-de.
