The first piece Complainte de la Seine (Complains of the Seine) is three page long and its lyrics are about what lies at the bottom of the river. The second song Je ne t’aime pas (I don’t love you) is a man telling someone that he doesn’t love her that everything is fine and that he is fine if she is happy. The third piece Youkali is a highly rhythmic tango-habanera in fourpages which depicts the island of Youkali. German composer Kurt Weill (1900-1950) is best remembered as a leading composer for the stage. His collaboration with playwright Jacques Deval to create the dramatised production of Marie Galante was well received. Marie Galante was originally a novel by Deval. Weill composed music for the play in 1934 and later for the screen version. This collection of the favourite pieces from the stage show includes The Ladies from Bordeaux and Dancing Scene. For all opera or musical theatre vocalists the songs from Marie Galante are varied and make for an exciting additionto the repertoire.

Das Streichquartett des Jahres 1923 - die Pantomime 'Zaubernacht' war bereits komponiert , die erste Oper, 'Der Protagonist' , sollte ein Jahr später geschrieben werden - hat noch etwas vom Ton der Anbruchstimmung, dessen sich die Avantgarde von damals befleißigte. Anklänge an den Neoklassizismus, auch busonischer Spielart, sind freilich eher schwach. Dagegen berührt sich die Ausdrucksgebärde vor allem der langsameren Partien bisweilen recht nachdrücklich mit den Tendenzen des späten Expressionismus.
