Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. BeethovenÂ’s Sonatas for Pianoforte and Violin are now available at a special set price. The set consists of volume I (BA 9014) and volume II (BA 9015).
BeethovenÂ’s ten sonatas for piano and violin, along with those by Mozart, constitute the heart of this classical music genre. Following the lead of MozartÂ’s late sonatas, Beethoven lets the violin part become increasingly independent from the piano part.
Not only does Clive BrownÂ’s scholarly critical edition offer a meticulously edited text but for the first time it presents a list of sources and a Critical Report. Furthermore Brown documents a great number of passages where, by todayÂ’s standards, the notation raises some questions. These passages had previously been overlooked in the autograph but their significance is now clarified.
One example can be found in Beethoven’s “Tempo di Minuetto” from Sonata op. 30 No. 3, where he uses a notational idiosyncracy based on C.P.E. Bach’s “Versuch über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen” to denote a rest. This musical symbol, which was included in the first edition published during Beethoven’s lifetime, has not been addressed in any modern edition to date.
In addition, a score through a chord can also not be found in previous modern editions - this denotes an arpeggiated chord./ Recueil / Violon et Piano

Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well-known for his Keyboard ...(+)
Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well-known for his Keyboard compositions. His 555 Keyboard Sonatas remain ever popular to this day and Jean-Pascal Post's arrangement for the Clarinet of ten of these loved works are indispensable for aspiring clarinetists. Originally composed for the Harpsichord Organ or early Pianoforte the Sonatas display the riveting use of discords and unconventional modulations to remote keys. It is also thought that much of Scarlatti's Keyboard music contains influences of Iberian music considering that he spent much of his working life in the service ofthe Spanish and Portuguese royal families. Post's transcription of ten Sonatas for Clarinet include Sonata K. 9. Post's arrangements for Clarinet enhance the lyricism and melodic invention of the Sonatas as well as enabling the student to study ornamentation and articulation. Bearing in mind that Domenico Scarlatti was a highly competent and popular musician in his day so much so that he was employed in the service of two royal families his Sonatas are composed with much experience understanding and expertise and Post's arrangement of these for Clarinet create an essential addition to the repertoire of all clarinetists.

These recorder sonatas by Gottfried Finger have been copied from an edition by the London publisher John Walsh. They are pretty pieces, very similar in form and invention to the recorder sonatas of Daniel Purcell (cf. ED 3693 and 4732) and from the same period. They are, moreover, just as charming and just as easy to play.

Neefe wrote enthusiastically in the same year.Announced as an ?excellent composition by a young genius of eleven years? these three impressive and technically challenging sonatas are still fully beholden to the style of C. Parte prima (No. 1-50)-The number of Scarlatti sonatas heard on the concert platform and learned by piano students is relatively small. We can understand this if we consider that the publications including a greater amount of material have not been accessible to the public. For this reason the chief task of this selection is to widen the circle of these few and with reason popular works. At the same time it aims to give a comprehensive view of Scarlatti's sonatas following the composer's development from the Essercizi of 1738 to the pieces written towards the end of his life.
