Written in 1803 by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) this Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major is a classical piece of the Trumpet repertoire. Composed in the spirit of Mozart and initially for the keyed-Trumpet it was re-discovered in 1958 by a Yale student after 150 years of inertia due to the obsolescence of the instrument for which it was made. This edition offers a transposition in E-flat Major (initially in E Major) adapted to the instruments in use today. The other instruments to be involved in this concerto are a Flute two Oboes two Clarinets two Bassoons two Horns Timpani and Strings. Hummel?s Trumpet Concerto begins with an orchestra onlyfirst movement in a sonata theme which is repeated with the inclusion of the soloist. This Allegro Spirito sounds reminiscent of the Haffner Symphony (No. 35 in D Major) by Mozart but distinguished itself by a second theme. The second movement Andante is more melodic with the trumpet which holds long notes. Finally the Rondo offers a blissful and bright end to the Concerto. Former student of Mozart Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was a brilliant composer pianist conductor and teacher. Evolving at the same period as Beethoveen he became as famous as him and wrote numerous concertos (for Piano Oboe Trumpet Violin and others) operas and some wind music pieces.

Piano reduction in E major and E flat major with parts in E/E flat C and B flatHummel's Trumpet Concerto is still one of the most popular concertos for this instrument. He composed it in 1803 for the Viennese courttrumpeter Anton Waidinger whose newly developed key-trumpet enabled him to play in a much more virtuoso manner than on the traditional natural trumpet. Henle's Urtext edition reproduces the work in the original key of E majorwith solo parts in E and for the more common trumpet in C. Due to the fact that the concerto is nowadays often performed in E flat major this edition also contains a piano reduction in E flat major for trumpets in E flat and Bflat. The different transpositions are now available in one single edition for the first time.

Trumpet Concerto-Haydn wrote his trumpet concerto in 1796 for Anton Weidinger (1767-1852) the trumpeter in the court Orchestra in Vienna. Weidinger is considered to have been the finest exponent of this instrument and his experiments resulted inthe creation of a fully chromatic Trumpet.For Trumpet in E Flat with Piano accompaniment as arranged and edited by Bram Wiggins. Trumpet Concerto-Hummel's trumpet concerto was written in 1803 for the Viennese trumpet virtuoso Anton Weidinger (1767-1852) who had developed a fully chromatic keyed trumpet. The concerto was originally written in the Key of E butis nowadays more often played in E flat so it can be comfortably performed on both B flat and E flat trumpets. This edition in E flat has parts for B flat and E flat trumpets.

This is a beautifully lyrical piece with many memorable melodies and sonorous harmonies.This version has been arranged for B flat Trumpet with Piano Accompaniment and has been edited by Norman Richardson. Where many piano (or orchestral) reductions can literally be a reduced orchestral score rather than a properly devised accompaniment this piano part has been carefully voiced so as to be performable. Britta Byström's Trumpet Concerto No.2 Screen Memories for Trumpet solo and Orchestra (2012). Trumpet solo part: WH31514B Dedicated to Tine Thing Helseth. Premiered February 28 2013 by the Nordic Chamber Orchestra  and Tine Thing Helseth conducted by Johannes Gustavsson at Stadshuset in Sundsvall Sweden. Programme note Screen Memories is the English translation of a Freudian term (Deckerinnerung is the original German term). In Swedish it is called 'täckminnen'. The term means strong but seemingly meaningless childhoodmemories as 'cover' for substantial memory.  The title is something of a pun as the work is based on the composition Voyage Into the Golden Screen  (1968-69) by Danish composer Per NørgÃ¥rd – a modern classic in which NørgÃ¥rd presents his compositional technique known as the infinity series. The technique which I freely apply in the “Trumpet Concerto” enables the development of an endless melody! In that sense “Screen Memories” adapts a second understanding: memories of the composition of NørgÃ¥rd.  NørgÃ¥rd in turn adopted the title from a song by British songwriter Donovan – the first phrase of this song is in my trumpet concerto. And then there's a third musical reference: the second movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 'Pathetique'. I once heard it in concert while a massive rainstorm appeared and nearly drowned the music. A musical memory incorporated in the composition (the percussionist uses a “rain stick”).  Screen Memories thus becomes a concert full of musical memories dressed in new clothes.
