Tribute to a Maestro is an homage to Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683 1764), one of the most important French Baroque composers. Rameau was a hugely significant composer, organist, harpsichordist and music teacher: he also published several authoritative books on music theory. Jan de Haan based this tribute on a theme from ??Les Sauvages?? (The Savages), the fourth act of Rameau??s ballet-opera, Les Indes Galantes (The Amorous Indies). The work begins with two variations, whereupon the striking theme can be heard. After a short intermezzo, four more variations follow, of which the last one is composed in Baroque style. A Guide for Your First Year of Teaching From fundraisers to irate parents, from meeting other teachers to measuring for new marching band uniforms, your teaching methods class never covered this territory! In Confessions of a First-Year Maestro, author Catherine Bell Robertson takes readers along as she rides the roller coaster of first year teaching! Centered on journal entries written during her first year as director of all bands, choirs, and ensembles at a parochial high school, this book captures the surprises, joys, and woes of her hectic year. As a survivor and now veteran teacher, she also looks back on this challenging time and offers insightful reflections. Robertson's journal and commentary are filled with lessons that every future teacher should read, especially those who will teach music. But while offering inspiration and a few warnings for education students, the humorous and often touching stories in this book also offer encouragement and understanding for teachers in their own first year, as well as a trip down memory lane for many veterans. A delightful and sincere look into the world of a first-year teacher as she begins her real education! Kate Robertson teaches at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin (not the school described in this book). She graduated with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and has been teaching for four years. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, gardening, cross-country skiing, and spending time with her husband, Cal, and their dog, Jake. Currently, Ms. Robertson is pursuing a Master's Degree in Education and is beginning work on her follow-up book to Confessions of a First-Year Maestro, entitled More Confessions: A Fellowship of Teaching Strategies, Stories, and Ideas. This highly original initiative proved to have historic consequences for the emancipation of the guitar from the rather provincial milieu of aficionados in which it was confined, enabling it to emerge as a major protagonist in its own right on the international music scene. To mark the 25th anniversary of his passing (1987-2012) I asked some composers to write a piece paying tribute to Andrés Segovia. Most responded with enthusiasm and I was able to perform their tributes to Segovia in the concerts honouring the memory of the Maestro I held in 2012 ?? in venues including the Ravenna Festival, the Ateneo in Madrid, the Royal Academy of Music, London, and the Meeting in Rimini, as well as many others. In my turn I dedicate this volume, containing a selection of these pieces, to the memory of the Maestro. The volume is undoubtedly enhanced by the inclusion of two further tributes to Segovia, both produced to accompany concerts I gave in 2012: a poem by Davide Rondoni and a portrait of Segovia by Roberto Casadio.(Piero Bonaguri).

Apart from many other treasures by Giacomo Meyerbeer, the Choral Treasury series also contains his compositional gem An Mozart. The quartet for four male a cappella voices (TTBB) is based on a text by Ludwig Rellstab. Even in this brief musical bow to Mozart, Meyerbeer's affinity for the opera cannot be denied: He uses a wide harmonic, technical and dynamic range of expression and makes impressive use of the full ambitus of the male choir. A highly rewarding rarity for ambitious men's choirs (or optionally for four solo voices) in which all high romantic stops are pulled out to pay due tribute to Mozart as 'Meister ..., der im reinen Lichte schwebt' [maestro who hovers in pure light].

A CD that includes four great works by Franco Cesarini performed by the Civica Filarmonica di Lugano under the direction of the Maestro. Passacaglia and Fugue in C-minor BWV 582 In Franco Cesarinis arrangement for large wind orchestra, the particularly careful interpretation of the original piece enables him to exploit all the sound colors at his disposal, and in this sumptuous guise Bach's work also takes on a grandiose dimension, albeittinged with late-Romanticism. A masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach superbly arranged for wind orchestra. Sinfonietta No. 3 “Zwölfmalgreien Sketches”, Op. 56 In composing the Sinfonietta No. 3 , Franco Cesarini was inspired by the history of the municipality of Zwölfmalgreien, made up of various towns, villages and scattered districts which were incorporated to the City of Bolzano (Italy) over one hundred years ago. The peculiarity of these places, different from each other, but all characterized by rare beauty, have contributed to create this 3-mouvement work (City Life, Mountain Shadows and Classic Wineyards), which translates into music the activities of the villages, the winter days and the lively atmosphere in the wine regions. A perfect trip to this wonderful part of Italy! Suite Siciliana, Op. 57b The Suite Siciliana, a 7-movement piece - Intrada , Pavana, Gavotta, Barcarola , Tambourin , Sicilianaand Tarantella - is characterised by contrasting rhythms and tempo and consists of these 7 dances. The musical form, typical of the Baroque period, refers to some traditional expressions of art from the land of Sicily: ranging from the rich architecture of the Sicilian Baroque to the colorful majolica ceramics and the characteristic puppets, the “pupi”, which narrate a secular tradition. A full immersion into ancient traditions of this beautiful island! Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes”, Op. 55 Fascinated by the beauty of Chicago, Franco Cesarini has translated his emotions into music: this is how was born Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes” , a musical portrait of this metropolis overlooking Lake Michigan. The composition is divided into three movements - The Wrigley Building from Dawn to Noon , Blue Silhouette and Cloud Gate - which by sharing the same thematic material arranged in cyclical form, strengthen the overall cohesion of the piece. Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes”, a sumptuous musical portrait of the “Windy City”. Civica Filarmonica di Lugano Since its foundation in 1830, Civica Filarmonica di Lugano has performed at diverging events, varying from large gatherings to international jury performances.
