Three Pieces for Organ was published in 1955. It contains three of Thiman's finer works for the instrument: Meditation on the Irish Tune 'Slane' - Pavane - Postlude Alla Marcia.

Eric Thiman (1900-1975) was a British composer and organist. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and at the University of London, and was organist at the City Temple in London for many years. He wrote over a thousand works, of which several hundred were published during his lifetime, mostly anthems, chorales and chamber works. About half of his Organ music was based on British hymn tunes.

Stravinsky’s 1918 Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet has long been savored by clarinetists as a rare gem in the instrument’s repertory, full of rhythmic drive and Stravinsky’s jazzy neo-classicism. Composer and clarinetist Gregory M. Barrett’s remarkable adaptation for 3 clarinets is a tour de force, assimilating Stravinsky’s harmonic, rhythmic, and contrapuntal style to create a striking addition to the clarinet literature.
Igor Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet (1918) is a core work in clarinetists’ repertoire, and I havereimagined it for the convivial grouping of three players. The arrangement contains all of Stravinsky’soriginal, but now his solo line is shared among three in a new matrix of harmony, imitation, andcounterpoint.The molto tranquillo first piece develops from the emphasized C# in Stravinsky’s first measure andmoves to a somewhat somber mood when C# is revealed to be the dominant of F# minor. Withincreasing expansion of tessitura in the sustained harmonies, the sun comes out in the last phrase with ajoyous Eb major chord.The circus-like second piece finds the three clarinets whirling in the air in synchronized trapeze artiststyle. The emphasis is on imitation and fluid hand-offs. Chords with major 7ths and 2nds contrast withtriadic harmony. Following the cat and mouse middle section, where dancing patterns of twos andthrees alternate, the summit of the big top is reached again just before the players settle down to earthwith a welcome C major chord of respite.The ragtime burlesque of Stravinsky’s third piece is heightened by homophonic rhythm among the threeplayers. Each clarinet part has its own specialty. Clarinet 1 loves 32nd notes, Clarinet 2 shows off with fasttriplets, and Clarinet 3 likes the low notes and in general supporting its friends. Quartal harmony withstacked 4ths is emphasized, but where Stravinsky’s melody suggests triads, I have taken his hint. Thepropulsive rhythms are truly exciting, and with the wink of an eye, the music ends all too soon.

“To this day, Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments, despite being a violinist himself. His Three Pieces for Flute and Oboe, or two Flutes is an exquisite addition to the repertoire. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bozza won prizes for Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes, whilst remaining a prominent composer. Bozza's Three Pieces are exciting duets containing much musical variation and contrast. As music educationalist, Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions, ”“his works reveal melodic fluency, elegance of structure and a consistently sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.”“”.

Three sketches is a series of three pieces for Piano named after the elements. Composed by Masayuki Nagatomi, it is quite a difficult series to play and it requires some advanced skills and abilities. The total duration of the set is 5'30 minutes. The pieces are: 1. Wind - which main theme represents a soft and quiet breeze, 1'30 2. Fire - fast and violent, which can destroy everything, and which depicts the flames sometimes big and sometimes smaller, 1'30 3. Water and Earth - really slow to start with, this part sounds like a river flowing quietly, with some part of acceleration The most difficult aspect of this series will probably be to give the correct execution for the audience to recognise each element. .

These three pieces were originally written for piano but have echoes of Mussorgsky?s most famous work ? Pictures at an Exhibition. The intention is to use each instrument in a virtuosic and solo-like manner. One can hear moments of Pictures in the pieces; The Hut of Babba Yaga comes to mind during In the Crimea and The Village contains a Promenade section not unlike that of Pictures. Still later, the muted horn and trumpet ?clucking? remind the listener of the Ballet of the Chickens.
