Highly complex and challenging, this volume features 23 pieces, the studies 25 to 48, and will help the flautist to master and perfect their technique. It is a must-have for those who want to keep improving at higher levels. Considered as a maestro by his peers, Marcel Moyse has composed many flute methods and exercise books also published by Alphonse Leduc, such as, for the same level, 12 Studies in Virtuoso After Chopin and 10 Studies After Wieniawsky. 1. Mechanical Study I 2. In the Air 3. Mechanical Study II 4. Falling Star 5. Mechanical Study III The three 'mechanical' studies of this set of five all employ a clear structural technique based on regularity. The first presents a stream of fast semiquavers in duple metre which constantly interplays with short motivic figures; the second offers a 14-bar ostinato (melody) that begins at the top of the keyboard and gradually descends to the bottom; around this ostinato a sustained counter-melody weaves. The third presents a igorous, stomping 9/8 dance rhythm which interacts with lengthening patterns in the second voice. The two 'fantastical' studies which intersperse the 'mechanical' contrast greatly with them: much freer in expression, tempo and rhythm, they evoke the outdoors and the calming presence of nature. The first moves like wafts of the breeze; the second, more complex, is the heart of the work. Its deep contemplations are several times interrupted by a modest refrain, drawing it back in the 'real world' - that of the three 'mechanical' studies which surround it. This refrain is also a mediator, its last appearance as gentle as the breeze evoked in the second study.

Practicing scales is essential to building and maintaining strength, technique, tone, and agility on the viola, but it is easy to slip into the habit of playing scales automatically, without paying attention to tonality or sound production. The 29 single-page studies in this book focus the attention of violists on the beauty of sound, with a particular concern for the way different keys resonate on the viola. The first 24 studies address all minor and relative major keys and proceed through the circle of fifths; the last 5 pieces are individually conceived, i.e., apart from the circle of fifths. No metronome indications are given, so the etudes can be played at individually comfortable tempos. The names of the etudes refer to various animals that have scales, including insects, fish, birds, reptiles, and a few species of mammals. The author hopes that in addition to experiencing more enjoyable scale practice, students will be inspired to learn more about these amazing creatures and write scale studies of their own.

Ludwig Schytte (1848-1909) was a Danish composer and pianist, who spent most of his life living and working in Germany and Austria. Born in Jutland, he studied with Franz Liszt before settling in Vienna, where he taught for twenty years. He wrote around 175 works with opus numbers, most of which were published in his lifetime, including two operas and a Piano concerto. Most of his compositions were shorter works for the Piano, and many of his pedagogical studies are still used today.
25 Studies For Piano (25 Leichte Etuden Fur Pianoforte; Op. 160) was published in 1908, making it one of the composer's last works. It has remained popular withPiano teachers and students for over a century.

This book is designed for the intermediate/advanced drummer to improve musical, technical control and reading ability, and presents several rhythmic styles, such as funk, jazz and Latin. I'm not trying to educate you on the 'correct' Cuban or Brazilian grooves, but have used this music as an inspiration for different phrashings and concepts. In the notes you can find book recommendations to explore the styles fully. Please feel free to use the material creatively, like repeating bars when you feel like it. You can also use the pieces for advanced sight reading, but I suggest that you take time to look carefully at the dynamics and stickings. All the stickings are basedon a right handed player (please reverse them if you are left handed). The basic concept is to have rhythmic compositions with basic classical notation and technique, that you can play on a drumset or on a practice pad with your feet stompin' at the floor. The first part is snare and bassdrum with hi-hat foot suggestions. Later in the book hi-hat (with stick) and snarerim are added. The advantage of these concepts is that playing through these etudes is very closely related to what is going on in modern music. Especially important for players in Jazz, Rock and Latin, but also very useful for a classical percussionist who needs solid music training. The last part of this book is a few pages of technique studies and rhythmic concepts that is related to the compositions. The purpose is not to include all basic strokes and principles (there are already many great books for that) but to show you some concepts that I have found useful and special through my years of playing and teaching. Michael Axen.

“Four Studies was written for Angela and Jennifer Chun in 2014. Each movement has a drone which lasts for the duration of the movement. The first bar of movements 1 and 4 can be quite long. The drone should remain loosely indifferent to the other part, avoiding any overly-dramatic commentary. That having been said, the droning player should feel free to subtly and constantly change the nature of the sound. Rests are meant to be played freely, expanding and contracting as the spirit moves the soloists, but the notes should be played in relatively even time. The space between the movements can work either with very short pauses or with no pauses at all; this is left up to the discretion of the performers.” – Nico MuhlyApproximately 12 minutes.
