Following meticulous research, the result was a new series for piano: Great Little Composers. The examples of Schubert??s early piano works included in this album were written when Schubert was between the ages of 15 and 24. During this time he was trained in composition by Antonio Salieri and greatly influenced by the symphonies and overtures of Mozart. Pat Goddard was left to ponder what the great composers were doing in their early years. Following meticulous research, the result was a new series for piano: Great Little Composers. The examples of Beethoven??s early piano works included in this album were written when Beethoven was between the ages of 11 and 27 ?? he did not have such an early start as Mozart! All but one have been relegated to the end of the catalogue of his works under the heading ??Werke ohne Opuszahl? (works without an Opus number WoO). However, they are varied and interesting and although showing strong traits of Haydn and Mozart, the germ of Beethoven??s future strikingly individual expressive language is clear.

Cyril Scott’s music is currently the subject of major revival, having lain largely ignored for much of the 20th Century. Once described as 'the father of modern British music' by Eugene Goossens, and admired by Claude Debussy, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky and his lifelong friend Percy Grainger, he composed four hundred works including: four Symphonies, three Operas, two Piano Concertos, four Oratorios, Concertos for Violin, Cello, Oboe and Harpsichord, several Overtures, Tone Poems, many Chamber works and innumerable songs. There is a story that when Bernard Shaw commented to Elgar on the (then) daring harmonies of his Second Symphony Elgar replied 'You mustn’t forget, it was Cyril Scott started all that!'.'a pioneer of British piano music, producing more piano works in the period 1903-1914 than any other British composer and any other international one, with the exception of Scriabin... (He) was a key figure before World War I in helping Britain to break away from musical conservatism and the prevailing Germanic influences.' (Lisa Hardy, The British Piano Sonata 1870-1945).

Almost all of Ursula Mamlok's works created before the Wind Quintet (1956) have remained unpublished until now. Many of them were performed for the first time in the final years of the composer who died in 2016. Mamlok himself played the accompaniment when (not only) her early piano works were released on CD by the label Bridge Records. They are now available in the present sheet music edition which contains three pieces from the days of her studies with George Szell, Roger Sessions and at the famous Black Mountain College (1942 and 1944) as well as three works with greater pianistic demands created after 1946. The collection also shows the composer's path from traditional forms towards her characteristic style and atonality. Pat Goddard was left to ponder what the great composers were doing in their early years. Following meticulous research, the result was a new series for piano: Great Little Composers.Mozart was a prolific composer from such an early age, and died so young, that so much of what he wrote could be bracketed into the ??young composer? category! The works in this book however, begin with those composed for harpsichord and notated by his Father Leopold when Mozart was only 5 years old, and conclude with works for fortepiano written when he was 18.

Supplement Volume 14 of the New Liszt Edition contains mostly unpublished early versions of piano works from the last two decades of the composer's life. The bulk of the volume comprises pieces from Volume 3 of Années de pelerinage and the Weihnachtsbaum cycle. Of the latter, two complete early versions are extant. One of these consists of pieces which are shorter and more condensed than the final version. For performer and listener alike, it is an exciting experience to become familiar with this set of pieces in its early form. Among the individual pieces in this volume, the autograph version of the beautifully evocative Schlummerlied im Grabe is also published here for the first time. Finally, Liszt's characteristically economical attitude to composing can be studied in the original form of what can be considered as the common starting point for La lugubre gondola I and II. The latest volume of the New Liszt Edition also contains a detailed preface in German, English, and Hungarian, including new results of research, five manuscript facsimiles, and critical notes. Along with the cloth-bound Complete Edition, a paperback version for practical use has also been published. This edition's contents are identical to those of the hardcover edition, except for the omission of the critical notes.

This edition includes three piano works by the German-Jewish composer Hans Samuel (1901-76), who was active primarily as an organist and composer of organ music. The selected works - Hassidic Hanukkah Tune: Al hanissim we al hapurkan (1946), Sounds of Slichoth: Paraphrases on S'lichoth Tunes According to the Ashkenas-Western Mode (1957, dedicated to the composer's parents, who perished in Theresienstadt), and Variations on a Yemenite Tune (undated) - were composed after Samuel's emigration to Palestine in 1939. Besides exemplifying the heightened awareness of diverse Jewish musical traditions that characterizes Samuel's music after his emigration, these works are representative of Israeli immigrant composers' early struggles to attempt to define their new nation musically.
