Hob I:81-Haydn?s Symphony in G major Hob.I:81 comes from a series of three symphonies completed in late 1784 (nos. 81 80 and 79 presumably in that order). No autograph score survives for Hob.I:81 thus our Urtext edition is based on copyists? manuscripts and first editions. As with so many of his symphonies Haydn wrote this one to provide new music for his employer Prince Nicolaus Esterházy.Continuing the collaboration between Bärenreiter and the G. Henle publishing company regarding Haydn?s large-scale choral works operas and symphonies this edition is based on the G. Henle Complete Edition of the Works of Joseph Haydn. Par HAYDN FRANZ JOSEF. Haydn composed his Symphony No. 77 along with his Symphonies Nos. 76 and 78 for a planned journey to England that never took place. Nonetheless, H.C. Robbins Landon calls these works the 'English symphonies” as they are stylistically closely linked to the 'London Bach”, Johann Christian Bach. Haydn himself, in a letter of 1783 to his Parisian publisher Charles-Georges Boyer, described the symphonies as 'Leicht und nicht vil Concertirend”, meaning that they were light in spirit and did not contain extensive solo passages but rather a clear sense of classical form. Continuing the cooperation between Bärenreiter and the G. Henle publisher regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies, this edition is based on the G. Henle Complete Edition of the 'Works of Joseph Haydn”. One of the touchstones of the classical repertoire Mozart’s Symphony No 40 in G minor was written over a very few weeks in Vienna in 1788 at the end of the composer’s tragically short life. Having turned away from composition in the symphonic form for some years Mozart returned to it with a creative fury that summer composing the three great and eternal symphonies Nos 39 40and 41 in a white heat of creative outpouring. Symphony No 40 is the only one of the three in a minor key allowing its classical elegance and beauty to be interwoven with drama and emotion.

L'Ours-This is the first symphony in the Paris cycle and it was composed in 1786. The nickname The Bear stems from the bagpipe-like theme of the final movement. Cyril Scott was an English composer writer and poet. He was essentially a late romantic composer whose style was at the same time strongly influenced by impressionism. His harmony was notably exotic. Scott wrote around four hundred works which include two mature symphonies three operas three Piano concertos concertos for Violin Cello Oboe and Harpsichord several overtures four oratorios as well as a mass of chamber music.Scott is undoubtedly best known for the solo Piano piece Lotus Land which is transcribed here for two Pianos. LotusLand seems impossibly modern for 1905 and additionally possesses a preternatural sense of jazziness. It has been recorded over fifty times both in its original form for Piano and in a wide variety of arrangements from vocals to jazz groups and from Brass bands to Synthesizer. Later Scott also wrote a poem with the same name.
