Béla Bartók's Sonatina for solo Piano. Suitable for pianists at an intermediate level. In his Sonatina Bartók used different melodies taken fromRomanian instrumental folk. From examining the sources it is clear to see how in 1915 the piece slowly evolved out of a series of Piano transcriptions of Romanian folk melodies into its three-movement form. This HenleUrtext Edition has been released prior to its publication as part of the Complete Edition. In this edition Bartók specialist László Somfai outlines the work’s exciting genesis and expounds onBartók’s later revision during which he not only changed the tempi but also the fingerings. The insightful notes on the work's background are complemented by indications on how to play the verycomplex Piano notation by Bartók himself and from his recordings. This edition provides an invitation to pianists to rediscover this Sonatina.

Sonatina In G Major for Violin and Piano was written during a period of relaxed creativity and family contentment. Dvorak wrote it in America at the end of 1893 and dedicated it to his children who were both attending the National Conservatory in New York where the composer acted as director. His daughter Otylie later the wife of Josef Suk and his 10-year-old son Antonin also premiered the work at a family concert.The purpose for which it was intended is reflected in the simplicity and clarity of musical ideas and the relatively straightforward technical demands of the piece.This title is part of the first CompleteCritical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.

Günter Habicht composed music for folk instruments and contributions to educational literature as well as works for wind orchestra, chamber and orchestral music, including the “Sinfonietta”, published in 1964 by VEB Breitkopf & Härtel Musikverlag Leipzig, and the award-winning “Quartettino 1969” for wind instruments, created for a composition contest organized by the Association of Composers and Musicologists on the occasion of the GDR’s 20th anniversary. With an easy piano accompaniment, the sonatina for clarinet and piano “Temperaments”, written in the same year, is particularly aimed at more advanced music students and amateur musicians. Each of the three movements represents one temperament (1. sanguine type, 2. melancholic type, 3. choleric type) that needs to be worked out during the rehearsals.
From 1935 to 1939, Günter Habicht (1916–2010) studied with Herbert Viecenz and Boris Blacher (music theory and composition) and with Walther Meyer-Giesow and Ernst Hintze (conducting) at the Dresden Conservatory. In 1951, Günter Habicht taught at an elementary school in Leipzig, and in 1952, he was appointed specialist lecturer for music at the Zentralhaus für Volkskunst. From 1955 to 1981, he was a teacher of music theory and clarinet at the Leipzig City Music School.
