Characterized by impressionistic and modal elements with far-ranging moods, from a whimsical carnival first movement to a sad soul-searching second movement, followed by a cheery, fairytale-like third movement. In 1959, Richard Lane was twenty-six years old and he wrote his first of eleven piano sonatas. At the time, he had just finished serving in the US Army as a musician and was selected to be an inaugural member of the Young Composers Project, which was sponsored by the Ford Foundation. As part of this project, Lane was assigned to compose music for the secondary level (public schools) in Rochester, New York, where he previously graduated from the Eastman School of Music. In 1959, Lane composed twenty pieces, seven of which were for the Rochester public schools, ranging from choral and orchestral works. The remaining thirteen pieces which Lane wrote at this time were vocal and instrumental solos, as well as other orchestral and choral works, and one opera. Of the twenty pieces, three of them were for solo piano, including the Piano Sonata 1.

The content of this volume consists partly of works that have survived in the composer's manuscript and are now published for the first time, and partly of the original versions of pieces that were published during Liszt's lifetime but later reworked. Of the earlier versions connected with Years of Pilgrimage, 2nd Year, Italy, the most noteworthy are the two completed versions of the Dante sonata, which are now appearing in print for the first time. Further important compositions belonging to the Italy cycle are the Petrarch sonnets. The first versions of these that we are publishing were actually published by the composer, and he also included them in his concert repertoire. Another particularly significant piece being published for the first time is the Freischutz fantasia, a characteristic, fine example of the type of opera fantasia Liszt developed at the beginning of the 1840s. Of the waltzes that feature in this volume, in addition to the first version of the concert pieces - the Grande valse di bravura and the Valse melancolique - we have also included three complete, technically less demanding little pieces that Liszt intended primarily as mementos.Territorial restrictions may apply. Famous pieces by G. F. Handel for Eb Alto Saxophone and Piano ? Vol. 2 is an anthology of four pieces arranged for Alto Saxophone and Piano by Marcel Mule. This second book features four sonatas, all composed initially by G. F. Handel and part of the collection ?Saxophone Classics? by Mule. - First sonata: Flute and Piano - Second sonata: Violin and Piano - Fourth sonata: Flute and Piano - Sixth sonata: Violin and Piano Each sonata should be played separately and their level of difficulty is quite challenging, which would match the abilities of upper intermediate / advanced players who have mastered their breathing. Marcel Mule (1901-2001) is one of the greatest French saxophonists, renowned worldwide for his work on the classical Saxophone repertoire. He was teaching his students how to obtain a good quality of sound and believed it was dependent on the embouchure, the emission, the mastery of vibrato and thus of breathing. He wrote different methods that focus on technique, articulation and tone productions such as 'Dix-huit Exercices ou Etudes', 'Exercices Journaliers d?apres Terschack' or '30 Grands Exercices ou Etudes d?apres Soussmann' (in two books), among others..

The three piano sonatas by Joachim Raff (1822-1882), representing his three main creative phases, occupy a special position among his more than 100 piano pieces. They reflect a significant compositional aspiration whereas Raff otherwise frequently leans towards the salon-music genre in his piano music. Raff composed the early sonata op. 14 in 1844 after his first works were positively evaluated and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy had encouraged him to venture a career as a composer. The Fantasie-Sonate [Fantasy Sonata] in d minor op. 168, Raff wrote in 1871 at the height of his fame as one of Germany's then most-played composers. Its dedication to Camille Saint-Saens shows his opposition to the rampant German disapproval of France and its music representatives in the wake of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870/71. The second version of the sonata op. 14, composed in the fall of 1881, had only the opus number in common with the earlier version. In this late work Raff had created an entirely new sonata. ,,Beautifully presented on cream paper, with exceptional clarity and generous spacing. The Fantasie-Sonate in D minor Op. 168, in particular, is a masterpiece which manifests both considerable power and exquisite craftsmanship. (www.pianodao.com).
