”Small Suite for Flute and Piano is a piece written for the Paris Conservatoire contest by Pierre Petit. Really melodious, it lasts eight minutes and is divided into three distinct movements. The first part, ?Gai et allant? is quite fast and has to be played joyfully. It uses the whole range of the instrument with some really high notes and includes a Cadenza. The second part, ?Lent et très chanté?, is slower, slightly lower in range and really melodious. It is quite short compared to the other parts. The third and final movement has the same kind of range as the first one. Fast, it features a part to be played at Marzuka tempo and one to be played at the same tempo than the beginning. The piece ends on a really high trill. Small Suite is really enjoyable to play and to listen to. It however requires some strong skills in terms of technique and sonority that would be acquired by advanced players: the difficulty is therefore rated at 7.“.

Simply beautiful, this accessible worship anthem is a quiet call to listen in the silence for the still, small voice of God. The melody is truly winsome, the lower vocal range bringing warmth and a conversational element to the performance. A fragile piano part supports and adds color to this quickly learned reflection on contemplative worship.

On November 5th, 2017, a mass shooting took place at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Twenty-six innocent people lost their lives that day, including an unborn child. Overture to a Small Town is dedicated to these victims and the loved ones they left behind. From the biggest cities to the smallest towns, the senseless bloodshed must end. Despite the darkness of this tragedy, it is my intent through this music to portray a sense of hope, dignity, and innocence deserved by all America's cities and towns. The opening moments of this piece should be treated delicately, ensuring that the brass section moves together in one unified voice, and that the crotales evoke distant flickers of light. Similarly, in mm. 120-127, articulations in the flutes, trumpets and mallets should be strong enough to be heard, but without being aggressive. The textural layering in mm. 48-53 should be executed with machine-like precision of both rhythm and articulation. This passage should evoke the sound of many voices rising together. There should be a great contrast between the opening Piano dynamic and the final Forte dynamic. In mm. 65-69, both mallet percussionists may play the indicated notes in any octave they choose. Both players should move rapidly between notes in any order. This passage should sound fluid and ethereal. In mm. 69-73: If there is no English Horn available to the ensemble, the Trumpet should play this passage solo. If there is an English Horn, both instruments should play the passage together. This impressionistic composition about these vanished structures, although written for more advanced ensembles, has only one flute, clarinet, trumpet, horn and trombone part. As a result, smaller bands can play this composition without having to look for a flex-band arrangement. Use this to develop the essential skills of syncopation and counting while also offering the security of only having one part for each instrument voice. An exciting contrasting selection for bands looking for a harmonically interesting composition, this also works well as a contest selection.  .On November 5th, 2017, a mass shooting took place at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends. The posthumously compiled collection of ten smaller organ pieces WoO 25 brings together a series of interesting pieces from the years 1854 to 1896. It includes one of just two chorale settings by Rheinberger, the prelude on “Wenn ich einmal soll scheiden”. With short trios, preludes and fugues in different keys, the collection is particularly suitable for use in worship, but also for teaching. Commissioned through grants from four Marianist provinces, the music on this special recording reaches out to the over 40,000 small Christian communities in the United States. Music for Small Christian Communities is a collection of 28 songs (with some selections in both English and Spanish) written by eight of today's best liturgical composers. Some of the music is responsive to typical events in a community's life, such as adding new members, public commitment to a community's mission, and gathering at table together. Other songs are written for regular ritual moments including Call to Prayer and Worship, Liturgy of the Word, Prayers of the Faithful, and Mission (Sending). There are also several selections dedicated to Mary, Mother of the Church and a community's commitment to social justice. This unique project was conceived by Bernard Lee, SM, and David Kauffman, a lay Marianist, both committed to their Marianist charism of Community and Hospitality. .
