Morton Gould's Hosanna Amen from 'Quotations' for Double Chorus of Mixed Voices and Wind Orchestra. Piano reduction. This work was commissioned by L. Anthony Fisher for the New York Choral Society Robert DeComier conductor and first performed by them on January 28 1983 at Carnegie Hall. The composer after thinking over the possible approaches to a choral work found the ide of platitudes common sayings and poetic referenmces challanging and stimulating. As 'Quotations' evolved he found that these sayings evoked nostalgic momories of his own childhood in Richmond Hill New York where he was reared on such aphorisms as 'theearly bird catches the worm ' 'a stitch in time saves nine ' 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.'After setting the scene in Richmond Hill the piece begins with Hallelujah Amen the common shout for joy and closing whisper of all religions. An antiphonal series of platitudes follows and then moves to more complex secular litanies the 'ballads ' or stories of young love and old age and the precariousness of life which have been told and retold through the ages. In the last movement the religious litany resumes with 'ashes to ashes dust to dust' echoing the earlier prosaic motif 'here today gone tomorrow ' or as Gould finally writes 'time's up!'

Written by Giles Swayne in 1995 based around the poem ' The Tiger' by William Blake . The work is for SATB choir and SSSATB soloists. A separate line for hands and feet is included on the score with fingerclicking and foot stomping adding to the percussive feel of the work. This is the full score showing all vocal parts and the body percussion line. ...African influences are also felt in Swayne’s Blake setting The Tiglet which bristles with foot stamping finger clicking and sharp vocal projectiles... Robert Levett International Record Review 01 February 2007The Tiglet (part of Swayne's work The Tiger) features some 'wild syllabic interjections half sung and half shouted' which have to be heard to be believed!Church Music Quarterly 01 December 2006 Listen to a sample here

Górecki's Church Songs, based on melodies from Rev Jan Siedlecki's ?piewniki Ko?cielne ('church songbooks'), were composed in 1986. This edition is based on the PWM edition of 2013, which was produced with the assistance of Anna Górecka and Miko?aj Górecki. A special feature of the Boosey publications is the new, alternative Latin sung text by Edward Tambling, which will be attractive to the many choirs who do not wish to sing in Polish. The Latin text is carefully crafted to fit Górecki's score and is both poetic and sensitive to the devotional aspect of the songs. English translations from the Polish are also included, for reference only. The three publications present the songs for sacred use according to devotional subject-matter. In concert performances the songs, or a selection of them, may be performed in any order and combination. Vol 1 contains six songs in praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The seven songs in vol 2 take the themes of Good Friday, the Crucifixion, The Cross of Christ and the Resurrection. Vol 3 contains seven songs in praise of St Joseph, St Anne and St Nicholas, the Blessed Sacrament, the Trinity and the Black Madonna of Cz?stochowa. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) A Cappella

Five-movement work for mixed chorus a cappella with mutiple divisi and semi-chorus.A setting of a poem by Michael Symmons Roberts (English) with Latin text from the mass and an English traditional rhyme. Co-commissioned in 2006 by the Indiana University Contemporary Vocal Ensemble ZaterdagMatinee the Three Choirs Festival and Soundstreams Canada. Recording: BIS SACD 1719 by Netherlands Radio Choir conducted by Celso Antunes. ?The music itself was a revelation: a mesmeric blending of traditional and contemporary elements ? a choral array of chanting and whispering of shouting and speaking of whistling and controlling disparate lines so that they wondrously merged ? Theco-creator of Sun-Dogs was British poet Michael Symmons Roberts who addresses theological and mythical symbolisms. Dogs beggars suns and stars turn into metaphors ? The whole settled upon the ears like magic ?? Indiana Herald-Times. Suitable for advanced standard choirs.

Sing Jubilate Deo!-Uses: GeneralScripture: Psalm 98 Psalm 100This powerhouse anthem is full of energy and abandon. Repeating the phrase “Sing Jubilate Deo!” in a call and response format the Psalms spring to life inpunctuated shouts of praise. The “seas roar” and the “rocks cry out” in glorious acclamation. A contrasting moment surrenders the rhythmic drive for a more reflective theme. The addition of two trumpets lifts the work to atriumphal shout of jubilant worship! Bold!
