The moving inner parts will appeal to every section of the orchestra, including the basses. This is a versatile piece suitable for concerts, festivals,?and contest.Escapades is an adventurous and energetic composition in G major. Pay attention to staccato marks over both eighth and quarter notes. The E-minor melodic section at m. 37 should be played in a legato style. The energetic theme returns after the melodic section and has a strong ending that starts with a two-measure augmentation of the last theme. This is a fairly straightforward piece, and there are plenty of moving parts that appeal to all sections, including an interesting bass part. The indicated Allegro tempo is recommended but may be adjusted according to the needs of the students. The piano part is best used for rehearsal only. Music Play is a play based program - each week features a new game from which the musical concepts in the curriculum are taught. Children love music games - this is a text that will have your students really excited about learning music! The songs in Musicplay are chosen to teach musical concepts, to teach children about cultures around the world, to provide songs for performances throughout the school year and to teach children about Canada. The most important factor in selecting songs for this series, is that songs appeal to children! The performances on the CD are also produced to appeal to children. Both children and adult voices are heard on the CD's and accompaniments vary. Orff accompaniments are heard in more than 50 songs, piano accompaniments are used in some, and upbeat rock and roll accompaniments are heard in others. The performance songs on the CD's have both performance tracks and accompaniment tracks - you can use the accompaniments only for your performances. Multicultural songs feature authentic performances - the songs are in original languages and are sung by native singers. Many of the multicultural songs are game songs that appeal to children even though the language and sound may be unfamiliar.

This piece, dedicated to the memory of a heroic feat, does not desire to be classed as a Symphonic Poem in the generally accepted sense of this term. It does not attempt to picture, or to strictly follow, the various mechanical and realistic phases of this heroic adventure although, on the other hand, it does not entirely avoid allusion to such realistic phenomena as are characteristic of and inseperable from the nature of this adventure and the technical means of its realization. The composer's main object, however, was to try to express in sound the emotional phases of an adventure that might be called a prototype of modern romance; to touch upon its human aspect and its ethical meaning, not only in the relation to the individual, but to humanity in general. To the individual, the venturing Hero, refer the opening phrases; the sinister aspect of a bold inspiration at its first manifestation. To his human environments, his character and conquering spirit, refer certain lyrical as well as martial and ehical themes. According to the nature of the venture, the clash of motoric forces and that of an indomitable spirit with the threatening elements presented themselves for musical consideration as well as the plausible uncertainty of the outcome, the increasing conficence and the final victory, and triumphant victory itself. And as emotion in its purest and most intense form reverts to the primitive, the composer thought it not amiss to make fragmentary use of the anthems of two nations, thus symbolizing the appeal from soil to soil; an appeal that found its joyous echo in all humanity. And in the midst of the turbulent rejoicing stands the lone figure of the Hero whose daring had materialized the dream of aeons.

Ferdinand Küchler is regarded as one of the great violin teachers of the 20th century. Apart from his Violin Method, it is, above all, his concertinos that are an absolute must for the development of any violin pupil, especially his famous Concertino in G major Op. 11 (Schott SE 1001) as well as his Concertino in D major Op. 15 which both enjoy great popularity. Composed “in the style of Antonio Vivaldiâ€, the work has, without doubt, been one of the most frequently played works in student violin literature for decades. It is the perfect educational link to Vivaldi's somewhat more difficult “student concertosâ€. The completely baroque-style movements appeal to every pupil. The fast outer movements contain rewarding, always seemingly violinistic runs and idiomatic figurations. The appeal of the slow middle movement lies in its simple, yet tonally demanding Siciliano theme. The works requires knowledge of the 2nd and 3rd positions and is here presented in a new modern edition. Bowing, articulation and fingerings are based on today's experience of interpreting Vivaldi's music, providing creative space and possibilities for personal ideas in modern violin lessons. This edition is part of the new Schott Student Edition series which offers varied literature at five different levels of difficulty, from 1 (easy) to 5 (difficult), for instrumental lessons. This exciting new musical utilizes the universal appeal of a box of crayons as the basis for teaching some valuable lessons about human relationships. The characters become life-sized crayons who explore the difficulties which arise when they must work together to complete the day's task of coloring another page in the coloring book. Six delightful Unison/two-part songs, including COLORING BOOK, COWBOY BLUES, and COMPLIMENTARY, are upbeat and easily learned! Costumes, props and sets can be kept simple and easy! This show is both versatile and flexible, especially concerning cast size and its appeal to several grade levels. Although the tone of this production is light-hearted and entertaining, both performers and audience learn about such issues as prejudice, expressing one's feelings, cooperation, and taking a positive approach.

Adoration is a tuneful, joyous piece that students will love to play. Every section of the young orchestra gets a chance to shine in this well-written piece. While it has good audience appeal, it is designed to allow the teacher to focus on sound production, ensemble playing, and tuning.Adoration is an upbeat piece with which I had a lot of fun writing and then preparing with my students. While it has good audience appeal, it is designed to allow the teacher to focus on sound production, ensemble playing and tuning. The piece is straightforward with no hidden traps. While there is a clear change of mood in the middle section, the pulse should remain constant and steady. In order to properly accomplish the accents sprinkled throughout the piece, bows must be “set†on the strings, never dropped.Thank you for using this piece.—Bud Woodruff.

Pieces of Light was commissioned by the Flautadors for their 20th Anniversary. When the group approached me about writing a piece, I had just finished reading Pieces of Light; The New Science of Memory by Charles Fernyhough, and it struck me that a work inspired by memories and how they are created in our brains would be very appropriate for a group of musicians celebrating such a wonderful milestone. A quote by Nabokov in particular provided ideas for both the rapid, rhythmic music that starts and ends the piece and the slow, 'light-filled' chords of the middle section: [In Nabokov's autobiography, Speak, Memory, he sees] 'the awakening of consciousness as a series of spaced flashes, with the intervals between them gradually diminishing until bright blocks of perception are formed, affording memory a slippery hold.' In addition, this work has really been shaped by the recorders themselves: before writing, I spent several hours with Ian Wilson (a member of the group) learning about the myriad different types of instrument I could write for. The renaissance instruments particularly appealed due to their fabulous timbre, despite the fact that, due to their open hole design, diatonic music works much better than anything chromatic. I became rather obsessed with the idea of writing chromatic music for diatonic instruments, and so in this piece I use recorders at both modern (A440) and baroque (A415, a semi-tone lower) pitch. This allowed me to write a piece that uses all twelve semitones of the scale throughout, whilst never writing a note for any individual recorder that falls outside its particular diatonic major scale: a compositional device that pleased me greatly!-Cheryl Frances-Hoad, 2019.

Geoffrey Bush's Summer Serenade is a refreshingly enjoyable work, written on the wing of inspiration, essentially sunny and life-enhancing. The eclectic style is readily diatonic, the harmonies never make one shudder and the rich melodic flow is appealingly direct. The settings of an ingenious selection of verse are in the best traditions of British choral writing. Performance time approx. 20 minutes.
Made up of 7 parts, including Prologue, Madrigal, Scherzo, Dirge, Aubade, Nocturne and Finale.Orchestration varies between theseparts - they are scored for chorus and orchestra, unaccompanied voices or Tenor solo and orchestra.
Geoffrey Bush was a British composer, organist and scholar of 20th-century English music. His compositions include 5 operas, 2 symphonies, choral pieces such as his Christmas Cantata and many songs, generally in the lieder style.

Commissioned by John Turner for Gordon Crosse's 80th Birthday concert at The Martin Harris Centre, Manchester University, 22nd October 2017. Premiered byLesley-Jane Rogers (soprano) and John Turner (Soprano, Treble and Tenor recorders). I'll have the Whetstone for soprano and recorder was written especially for Gordon on his 80th Birthday. When trying to find a text to set for the work, John Turner suggested I turn to The Guizer by one of Gordon's longtime friends, Alan Garner. In fact this book, which is a collection of stories about fools (!) was dedicated to Gordon! The anonymous folk poem that I chose immediately appealed to me and I had great fun setting the whimsical lines!
