Along with a computer, an audio interface provides the all-important hardware foundation for computer-based recording. This book helps musicians choose, apply, and get the maximum performance from all types of audio interfaces. Written in a clear, practical, non-intimidating style, topics include: * The significance of different types of analog and digital connections and how you would use them * Interconnection protocols (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, PCIe) for Windows and Mac computers * Product options from portable, mobile units up to sophisticated mixers that can also serve as audio interfaces * The special requirements involved in recording guitar * The function of drivers and accessory programs (like software mixers for signal routing) * Ways to minimize delays that occur when using audio interfaces with computers * How and why to choose particular sample rates and resolutions * The high-resolution audio controversy * Microphone preamps * Using multiple interfaces * Expanding existing interfaces for more inputs * Understanding specifications * Various special features unique to particular interfaces, and more Loaded with illustrations and featuring the judicious use of sidebars to give details on selected topics for those who want to know why as well as how, How to Choose and Use Audio Interfaces is essential reading about one of the most important elements needed for a high-quality, computer-based home or project studio.

The composer writes about his work: My piece entitled Embroidery patterns on the cracked surface of the Earth can be imagined somehow as follows: two clarinets and a bassoon write beautifully ornamented magic formulas in the clay. As they proceed, the surface cracks into pieces. They almost finish the writing , but an invisible hand keeps rearranging the innumerable component elements. The rearrangement creates time hiatuses, or heaps together units of information in masses of unexpected density (in the second part, brief but condensed suddenly-emerging patterns of differing density scratch the surface of the long periods of silence) elsewhere it collides with the netof sound that carries the material and thus huge faults, ruptured tectonic plates, come into being The complete work was first performed by the Trio Lignum (Csaba Klenyán, Lajos Rozmán, György Lakatos) in Budapest in 2005.

“I like the idea of exploring the dramatic, ritualistic side of music. In The Mirror With Three Faces, one can look at three different faces or roles of the same person or at three distinct personalities – each with its own face. Each character (i.e. instrument) may be isolated, in conflict, or in harmony with others and itself. This trio explores individuality and ensemble, harmony and conflict, one in three or three in one – that is the ambiguous nature of this work, structured in the form of a triptych.†(Lera Auerbach).

VERTEX BUFFERS NOW AVAILABLE TO THE MASSES! For over a decade, every buffer that's come out of Vertex Effects has been custom made, bespoke, for the pedalboard it was designed for or the customer that ordered it. Needless to say, our buffers were very limited, with only a few hundred made over the last ten years. Over that time, and through hundreds of custom buffer interfaces being made, several common applications for buffer combinations and routing emerged as the most common uses as it comes to placing buffers on a pedalboard for the most optimal results. Routing schemes such as mono, stereo, audition loops (inserts), four-cable method, five-cable method, and wet/dry/wet were all common requests from our customers, but there was never an all-in-one solution that provided all of these options for buffering and routing your pedalboard in a pedalboard-friendly enclosure – until now. Introducing the Vertex Buffer Interfaces and Buffer Modules. The first all-in-one solution that covers 99% of all pedalboard routing options, whether you have multiple amps, amps with effects loop, a wet/dry/wet rig, an impedence sensitive fuzz, or want to side-chain pedals off the board in the middle of your signal path with an insert loop, these boxes have a solution for you that won't compromise on tone. WHY ARE OUR BUFFERS BETTER? Firstly, our buffers are designed to have no sound of their own – totally transparent, no color, no EQ, no distortion – just your tone as though you plugged your guitar directly into your amp with a 10ft cable (even if you're running a dozen or more pedals between the guitar and amp with over 100 ft. of cable). So often buffers in our industry will be described by the manufacturers with words like “warm†or “fat†when really the buffer should NOT be imparting anything to the sound other than 1) loading the guitar pickups properly with the same loading as your guitar would see if plugged into a tube amp and 2) converting the signle to low impedence, driving the line so it is the least susceptible to environmental factors that might alter the tone. Unfortunately, 99% of the buffers available on the market don't do this – they add a color to the signal and lack the proper specifications to dive even 20 feet of cable without introducing artifacts into the sound.

Critics responded warmly to its colour, vitality, and strong individuality. The same qualities are found in Five Distressed Surfaces, a collection of fascinating character studies that also reflect the composer's skills as a pianist and improvisor. Though not intended to be played as a suite, the individual pieces are linked by a concern with visual, plastic and even tactile sources of inspiration, and by a quietly disruptive humour.
... Morgan Hayes' piano works, Flaking Yellow Stucco and Le Lardon, were elegantly explosive in [Stephen] Gutman's performances.
