The collection includes 19 opera choruses by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn, arranged for choir with piano accompaniment. The most beautiful choruses from the most popular of Mozart's operas are published in one volume, together with opera choruses by Joseph Haydn. While since they were first composed it would be difficult to imagine the opera repertoire without most of Mozart's operas, in the case of Haydn there are still unknown treasures waiting to see the light of day. But even among Mozart's works it is still possible to make new discoveries. All of the choruses in this varied collection of both known and unknown works by these two great masters contain piano accompaniments and the original singing texts, as well as German translations (where applicable). The piece for four-part mixed choir range from easy to mid-level difficulty. A supplementary economical edition for choir (editionchor, without piano accompaniment) has also been published. At times Romantic, at other times with a jazzy touch, the Choral collection Bruckner. Secular choral music is full of exciting discoveries and new arrangements at various levels of difficulty. Anton Bruckner’s secular choral music is often overshadowed by his great symphonies and sacred choral works – unfairly, as choral experts Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher prove with their small but fine selection of choral music inspired by secular texts. Bruckner left only a few movements for mixed choir; instead, his music for male voices constitutes a far larger body of work. For this collection, renowned arrangers from Germany, England, Denmark, and Italy have specially reworked the most beautiful of these choral movements for SATB, enabling this great repertoire to be performed by mixed choirs. Two original SATB compositions are also included. Furthermore, the choral collection features arrangements of songs originally written for solo voice and piano with texts by such poets as Heinrich Heine and Emanuel Geibel. Another highlight is an arrangement of the Adagio from Bruckner’s String Quintet WAB 112, which Heribert Breuer has created for choir to a text by Georg Trakl.- 16 SATB settings, several with keyboard accompaniment- Selected by Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher- Modern SATB arrangements of male-voice works and solo songs, as well as original compositions - Affordable complete volume (editionCHOR) as well as separate editions available in print and digitally.- Introductory price valid until 31.10.2023, then 27.00 EUR (editionCHORLEITUNG) and 15.00 EUR (editionCHOR, minimum order: 20 copies)

The secular repertoire is divided into two volumes of unaccompanied choral music and one volume of works with instrumental accompaniment, mostly piano. The focus of the publishing house's program is on the Romantic era here. The majority of works was therefore composed by the great choral composers of this period: Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Robert Schumann. Later composers include Max Reger, Johann Nepomuk David and Kurt Thomas, but also Einojuhani Rautavaara and Siegfried Thiele. This second part-volume contains mixed choruses composed by Reger between 1904 and 1914. Most are sacred works, including the great motets op. 110 (Mein Odem ist schwach, Ach Herr, strafe mich nicht!, O Tod, wie bitter bist du), the Acht geistliche Gesange (Eight Sacred Songs) op. 138, and the fragmentary Vater unser. Functional liturgical music is represented with the Easter motet Lasset uns den Herren preisen, the Vier Kirchengesange (Four Church Songs) and the English-language Responsories. With the secular works, the Zwolf Chore aus dem Volksliederbuch (Twelve Choruses from the Volksliederbuch) form a substantial portion, flanked by Reger's setting of Good Night written for a school book, and the Abschiedslied for Fritz Stein.
In January 2008 the Max-Reger-Institut (MRI) in Karlsruhe began publishing a scholarly-critical edition of the works of Reger (RWA). As a Hybrid Edition it is exploring new approaches in editorial techniques. For the first time, in this edition the digital component for this volume will no longer be supplied on a data storage device, but published in an online portal.

This first part-volume contains mixed choruses composed by Reger between 1890 and 1902. It includes functional music for use in the Catholic liturgy (Opus 61 and WoO VI/12, 19) and the Protestant liturgy (Opus 79f and WoO VI/17, which provides chorale-based four-part settings for a complete church year). Reger wrote both secular folk song settings (WoO VI/10, 11), as well as sacred (WoO VI/13, 14). His Drei Chore [Three Choruses] op. 39, very demanding both compositionally and tonally, were dedicated to renowned choral societies, almost professional in standard. Palmsonntagmorgen WoO VI/18, written as a commission, forms a bridge to Reger's later motets to a certain extent. Since January 2008, the first scholarly, critical edition of the works of Max Reger (RWA) is being produced at the Max-Reger-Institute, Karlsruhe. Its design as a hybrid edition breaks new ground in the methods of editorial practice.

Drawing from his five decades of success as a conductor and educator in the choral field, Will Kesling has compiled a comprehensive choral methods resource that addresses every necessary fundamental for achieving artistry in the choral art. Written in clear and conversational language, this resource covers: Building a healthy and beautiful choral sound Dealing with vocal issues Selecting repertoire and programming concerts Developing score study skills and interpretive insights Understanding the characteristics of musical periods and composers Planning, preparing for, and running rehearsals The Voices I Hear also explores important but often overlooked topics, including a discussion of performing sacred music in secular education settings, techniques for performing choral-orchestral works, choral versus orchestral conducting, and how to become a true “maestro.†Individual chapters also function as standalone topics of study. A valuable read for emerging and seasoned conductors alike, The Voices I Hear is an expert study of the aesthetic, intellectual, and practical aspects of the choral art. Dr. Will Kesling is Professor of Choral and Orchestral Conducting at the University of Florida, where he has taught for two decades. He has conducted hundreds of choral ensembles and nearly fifty of the world’s finest symphony orchestras. His ensembles have received international attention for their excellence and musical expression.  Thank you, Dr. Kesling, for the decade you gave of yourself to write the most complete and comprehensive writing on the topics of choral techniques, methods, and conducting I have seen. It is in-depth yet practical, to the point of being a valuable resource for both the young conductors entering the choral field to the well-established professionals. You have given us a solid foundation in all significant areas of the choral art, including, among many others, the production of beautiful vocal tone, detailed physical vocal production, textual and physical components of English diction, repertoire programming, appropriate style, interpretation and phrasing, and a pathway to successful conducting of combined choral and orchestral forces. Your enormous and highly successful career, with worldwide performances and numerous awards and honors, has enabled you to bring validity and integrity to the entire writing. —Donald Neuen   Distinguished Professor Emeritus, UCLA   Former member of the Robert Shaw Chorale   Mr. Shaw’s Assistant Conductor with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Choruses For more than 50 years, Dr. Will Kesling has been and continues to be a prominent figure and voice in the International and American choral profession. His new book, The Voices I Hear, is the distillation of his long and distinguished career as a conductor and choral music educator. The driving and consuming passion throughout Kesling’s life is the preparation and performance of the world’s rich and diverse choral and orchestral repertoire and the education, development, and growth of those who perform and conduct it. This book is a summation of a lifetime immersed in the choral art and all its many aspects. It overflows with insights into the choral art that will not only instruct the beginning conductor but also will enlighten and entertain the seasoned professional conductor and educator. It is filled with wit, wisdom, and practical advice to all practitioners of the choral arts. I enthusiastically recommend Kesling’s enlightening new book as an important addition to the choral pedagogy bibliography and for use as an invaluable new text for choral practicum classes for both graduate and undergraduate students. Dr. Kesling has brought to the choral profession significant new insights to all lovers of the choral art. —Craig Jessop   Professor of Music, University of Utah   Former Music Director of the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square   and the United States Air Force Singing Sergeants Will Kesling’s book, The Voices I Hear, is practical and philosophical, useful and inspirational, focused and comprehensive. The observations and advice are based on his vast personal experiences on the podium with choirs and orchestras, and the book is a monumental resource for both the young conductor and the veteran. Containing a broad spectrum of musical styles, composers, and topics, Kesling’s direct and practical writing connects immediately with today’s choral musician. Keep The Voices I Hear nearby as there will be many times down the road where the information and opinions in Dr. Kesling’s book will answer the questions you have, as well as the ones you didn’t even know to ask! —Jerry Blackstone   Professor Emeritus of Music (conducting) and Director of Choirs (retired)   School of Music, Theatre & Dance, University of Michigan This is the textbook I wish had been available when I was beginning my studies. It is comprehensive in scope, practical and helpful in its suggestions, and, perhaps most surprising in a book from an academic, superbly written in clear and powerful English. Kesling speaks with conviction, clarity, and polish, and he finds colorful and memorable ways of making his points and presents the material from the perspective of one who has done all these things for decades at a highly professional level. I give this volume the highest possible recommendation. —Daniel Gawthrop   Composer & Conductor.

With his Hebrew Choral Songbook, Ohad Stolarz presents a new collection of classics of the musical repertoire in Hebrew, arranged by him for mixed choir a cappella. Many of these pieces are published in Germany for the first time; almost all of them are first published as choral arrangements. The first volume contains ten sacred and paraliturgical songs that may be sung at various occasions. Among these are the feast of Passover, the Ten Days of Repentance in the month of Tishre and the Sabbath. The second volume contains ten secular songs that have become widely known in Israel during the 20th century. These songs are part of Israel's cultural history and belong to its core repertoire. All Hebrew lyrics appear in transliteration underneath the music, translations in German and English and comprehensive annotation texts are located in the appendix. This choral songbook therefore allows all interculturally interested choirs to take first steps into the world of Jewish and more generally Hebrew choral music.None of Stolarz's versions are strophic harmonisations; all are through-composed scores with enough variation of texture to satisfy the listener's ear while ensuring that the original words and melody are not obscured. They are anything but dull. (Jeremy Jackson, Choir & Organ).

Following the complete collection of Heinrich von Herzogenberg's secular choral music (winner of the Music Edition Prize 2011), Carus has published Volume 2, the complete sacred a cappella choral works. The editor is once again Konrad Klek, who describes in detail the circumstances surrounding the composition of these works. In addition to the five cycles of Liturgische Gesange for various services during the church year, the original liturgical integration of the choral music is explained in detail. The four to eight-voice motet Mitten wir im Leben sind from 1881, composed in reaction to a catastrophic fire, is a first edition from the manuscript. Of the nine additional motets, until now two were not available: a festive five-part motet for Pentecost and the great double chorus for the silver anniversary of Mendelssohn's daughter, Lili Wach. Smaller choral settings for specific occasions (e.g., weddings) round out the picture. The Begrabnis-Gesang (funeral lament) for tenor solo and men's choir at the end of this volume, with his own words as well as music, is a very personal offering by the composer to the widow of his deceased friend, Philipp Spitta. All the works are also available in separate editions.

Prof. Andreas Gopfert took on the big challenge of making a selection from 500 years of musical and cultural history of choral singing in the area of Middle Germany. The 112 pieces for mixed choir a cappella are all by composers and arrangers which come from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia or which have been active there: Starting from Luther, Schutz, Telemann, Handel and Bach via von Weber, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Reger to contemporaries like Gregor Meyer, Ludwig Bohme and Georg Christoph Biller. The volume is divided in three parts of which the first contains composed choral music from the Renaissance to the Modern Age, the second includes sacred and secular pleas for peace and the third collects classical and modern folk song arrangements. Thereby, the difficulty level is such that both amateur choirs and professional ensembles will find sufficient repertoire. The Mitteldeutsches Chorbuch, the official choirbook of the Deutsches Chorfest [German Choral Festival] 2020 in Leipzig, was compiled by Prof. Andreas Gopfert on commission of the Deutscher Chorverband [German Choral Society].
