This spectacular transcription offers string orchestras an alternative to Holst's St. Paul's Suite. Based on his Second Suite for Band, this version features Song of the Blacksmith and Dargeson. Written in the key of G Major, the final movement will prove to be less difficult than St. Paul's Suite, yet still has the excitement and energy of the original!

The Build-A-Band Series provides educational and enjoyable music for bands with incomplete or unbalanced instrumentation. Written using just four or five parts (plus percussion), these effective arrangements will work with any combination of brass, woodwind, string and percussion instruments as long as you distribute the parts so that each of the five parts is covered. All of the publications in the Build-A-Band Series have been arranged to be playable with any instrumentation as long as each part is used: 1st Part, 2nd Part, 3rd Part, 4th Part, and Bass Part. (Please note: In some of these arrangements the 4th Part, and the Bass Part are the same, making it possible to play those arrangements with only 4 parts.)

Between 1905 and 1934, Gustav Holst was Director of Music at St Paul’s Girls School in Brook Green, London. St Paul’s Suite, written for the school’s string orchestra, was premiered there in 1913 and consists of four movements: an energetic Jig in 6/8 and 9/8, Ostinato, based on a simple 4-note theme, Intermezzo, an energetic and rhythmic dance and Finale, adapted from the Second Suite in F in which Holst brilliantly combines The Dargason and The English Dancing Master, with the traditional melody, Greensleeves.

A lilting waltz with a modern twist, taken from the composer’s JazzSuite No.2.

After Henrik Ibsen obtained sensational feedback for his verse drama Peer Gynt, he decided to arrange the text for stage performances as well. He requested incidental music from Edvard Grieg, who immediately assured Ibsen of his cooperation. In its new version, Peer Gynt was given its first performance in February 1876 and also scored a tremendous success. After a further revision of his music, Grieg compiled four of the most striking pieces into an orchestral suite in 1888, and repeated this procedure three years later for a second suite. The publication of the first complete score further boosted the already exceptional acclaim of the incidental music to Grieg's Peer Gynt, which takes its place today among the composer's most beloved works.Breitkopf is now releasing a new conductor's score to both suites, based on the proven edition of Richard Clarke, which is already accessible as a study score in the Eulenburg series. The new conductor's score to both suites is based on the proven edition of Richard Clarke, which is already accessible as a study score in the Eulenburg series.

These TWO SUITES were composed in response to a request form Heini Schneebeli, the musical director of 'TROMBONANZA 2017'. Santa Fe in Argentina is the backdrop for this exciting annual event involving many hundreds of student and professional players. The SECOND SUITE has five movements and is intended for a quartet of younger tenor trombonists working with a teacher on the fifth part on bass trombone who will add richness and depth to the ensemble sound. It is my hope that this piece will encourage, entertain and challenge student players and provide useful concert material for use in the promotion of this unique and versatile instrument. John Frith - 2017This work is appropriate for younger performers at an intermediate level all in bass clef. The five movements total about 9 minutes in length and have the following titles:1. Latin Dance2. Ballad3. Give Me a Break!4. Bass Waltz5. Cruisin' Along (swing)
