Je suis honoré d'écrire quelques mots à propos d'un des plus grands pianistes, Kenny Barron. Il a été une figure importante de la scène New Yorkaise durant quarante ans et il fait partie de l'élite des pianistes de jazz dans le monde.
J'ai tout d'abord rencontré Mr Barron en 1977 dans un haut lieu du duo piano/basse, au Bradley's, dans Greenwich Village. Je l'ai entendu à Cincinnati (dans la ville où j'habitais) en 1974 avec le Quartette de Yusef Lateef et fus très impressionné. Au Bradley's, il était chaleureux et a été très encourageant avec moi, pianiste de 21 ans récemment arrivé à Big Apple (New York). Le moment venu, il me laissa m'asseoir avec son bassiste, le grand Buster Williams - ce fut un réel plaisir.
Lorsque j'ai commencé à réaliser des CD pour le bénéfice de Classical Action : Performing Arts Against AIDS, dans le début des années 90, je lui ai demandé de participer au second enregistrement Fred Hersch and Friends : The Duo Album en jouant un duo avec moi. Cette organisation collecte des fonds vraiment nécessaires pour les services de personnes atteintes du Sida et la prévention. Kenny, sans attendre, donna de son temps et joua magnifiquement. Nous avons également joué à deux pianos à New York au Town Hall et deux fois au Jazz Standard, pour mon plus grand plaisir. C'est un partenaire merveilleux et compréhensif, disposé à tout essayer. Bien qu'il soit difficile de l'identifier, et je ne veux le mettre dans aucune sorte de boîtes, je perçois son style comme étant en grande partie influencé par McCoy Tyner (les lignes longues et claires) et Tommy Flanagan (le phrasé et l'utilisation de l'espace). Il a réussi à obtenir le statut rare de maître du jazz par la vertu de sa longévité, sa profondeur et sa musicalité. Nous partageons tous les deux une passion pour la musique de Monk, Strayhorn et de l'American Popular Songbook et nous sommes tous les deux de grands partisans de l'idée de rendre ce que nous avons absorbé en enseignant aux jeunes pianistes et en devenant leurs mentors.
En plus, il a une personnalité chaleureuse et engageante - il est d'un grand soutien, a un grand sens de l'humour et une attitude posée. Je suis très heureux que ce livre puisse apporter un éclairage sur le parcours du pianiste Kenny Barron - je suis sûr que cela sera d'une grande valeur musicale et historique pour tous ceux qui suivent l'évolution du piano jazz. / Jazz / Partition /

25 Duets for Two Snare Drummers-Snare Drum Duets offers a selection of 25 challenging duets that range in difficulty from relatively simple to more complex. A wide assortment of time signatures is used throughout the book from 2/4 and common time to 5/8 7/8 and 12/8 among others. This method can be used in several different ways: For those working with the book without the benefit of a second player snare drum parts one and two can be practised as individual solos for improvement of basic reading skills. Two players may use the book as writtem in duet format remembering to alternate parts. Finally for those studying the material without a playing partner the enclosed CD includes aseparate recording of parts one and two of each duet thus enabling the player to perform either part along with the other on the CD.

Jan Sweelinck (1562-1621) was among the most famous organists of seventeenth century Europe and an influential composer in the Dutch and North German tradition. Bridging both Renaissance and Baroque styles the Dutch composer is best remembered for the inventive sparkling music he wrote for organ and other keyboard instruments. This remarkable treasury includes nearly all of Sweelinck's brilliant keyboard works most of which have survived only in widely scattered seventeenth century manuscripts. In Sweelinck's day these were some of Europe's most popular pieces for organ and keyboard. Nowadays they retain every bit of their original intensity and vigour. Reproduced inthis authoritative complete-resource edition they will be welcomed by serious keyboard artists who will find them as praiseworthy today as they were when first known and played in Europe over three hundred years ago.

from the Klos' Celebrated Method for Clarinet-Joseph Küffner (1776-1856) is best remembered for his contributions to Guitar literature and indirectly Clarinet methods. Of his compositions for winds a set of duets for Oboe and Clarinet (op. 80) have become standards for students. Adapted by Simeon Bellison and added to the famous Klosé Celebrated Method for Clarinet these works have become an integral part in Clarinet pedagogy. Excerpted from the larger method these duets have been carefully re-engraved in an affordable and easy-to-read edition. A welcome edition for students teachers and enthusiasts alike.

Trevor Wye (b. 1935) is an English flautist pedagogue and music editor who has been playing the flute for over 65 years. Despite not attending any conservatory or university he has held professorships at both theGuildhall School of Music and the RNCM. He has written several successful educational flute works and edited many more. The third volume of Wye’s Flute Duets contains six easy and tuneful Sonatas by the19th century composer and flautist Eugène Walkiers (1793-1866) taken from his opus 55. Walkiers is best remembered for his Flute duets trios and quartets compositions which are far superior to his solo works.

Le Verseau-French composer Pierre Ancelin (1934-2001) studied at the conservatories of Aix-en-Provence Marseille and later under Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire. His Scrubland is an exciting collection of five pieces for Oboe and Piano. Ancelin is particularly remembered for founding the National Union of Composers of Music along with Jolivet Lesuer and Sauguet. The five pieces in Scrubland are suitable for beginner to intermediate level oboists. Each of the five pieces contain a variety of musical features.
