Piano Works Volume II-To mark the 150th anniversary of Debussy?s birth in 2012 Henle are proud to present a tribute to his piano solo works in three volumes available as a paperbound or a clothbound edition. As a publishing house whose main focus ison piano music it was important for Henle to give a special place to the works of Claude Debussy the innovator of piano style. Thus since the early 1980s they have steadily been publishing single editions of all of Debussy?simportant works for the piano. Henle's editor Ernst-Günter Heinemann has worked closely with the French Debussy scholar François Lesure to present Debussy?s elaborate music in high quality Urtext editions. Beginning with the'Danse bohémienne' from 1880 all of the single works from Henle's catalogue have been drawn together in these three volumes arranged according to their date of composition. And as a little 'encore' Henle have included thePrélude to the cantata 'La Damoiselle élue' in volume I. Each of the three volumes contains true highlights for the piano. But the short and lesser known works also offer a glimpse at the modern classical composer Debussy from adifferent angle. Carl Czerny is considered by many to be the father of modern Piano technique. He composed over 1 000 works including hundreds of Piano studies. Piano Works-Rued Langgaard (1893-1952) is one of the most important Danish composers of the 20th century. Langgaard’s piano compositions are evenly spread out over his 50 productive years from 1902 to 1951. Generally speaking his piano music represents the entire broad spectrum of expression and the stylistic diversity one finds in his music. Some of the most personal works he created are to be found among the piano works e.g. Insectarium (1917) Music of the Abyss (1921-24) Insanity Fantasy (1914-49) and Le Béguinage (1948-49). In many of the works however nostalgic and romantic moods of expression are predominant. This publication presents Langgaard’s pianomusic in its entire range. The three volumes comprise 26 works and 44 individual piano pieces. Only 11 of the compositions have previouslybeen published. The Rued Langgaard Edition (RLU) was established in 2000 the aim being to present practical performance-oriented publications of Langgaard’s works on a critical scholarly basis.

Complete Piano Sonatas II-Piano works were at the centre of Alexander Scriabin's compositional output. As an outstanding pianist he began writing mainly miniatures for his instrument in the style of Romantic Piano pieces. But it was also Scriabin who unlike any other composer of his generation contributed to the continuation of the sonata tradition. Particular milestones in his output were Sonatas nos. 4 and 5 of 1903 and 1907 in which we hear forms and harmonies not heard previously. When these works are occasionally given the name 'Poème' Sonatas this indicates that they stem from the time and allude to the compositional context of Scriabin'sdaring Orchestral works 'Le Divin Poème' and 'Le Poème de l´exstase'. The editor Christoph Flamm is an expert in Russian music particularly Piano music. His research for example into Nikolai Medtner and the editions based on these findings are regarded as standard works. For his Bärenreiter edition of Scriabin's Sonata no. 5 Christoph Flamm has drawn on sources which were until recently regarded as lost or could only be consulted with great difficulty.
