When Christa Landon presented the first printed version of her edition of Joseph Haydn's Piano sonatas Haydn's sonata oeuvre was still overshadowed by the works of Mozart and Beethoven. Since then Haydn's sonatas have progressed from the teaching rooms to the concert halls and Landon's edition has played a crucial role in that process. The Haydn anniversary in 2009 is a welcome occasion to thoroughly revise this 'legendary' edition for over the course of more than forty years new sources have come to light and questions of authenticity have been resolved not least because the editorial principles for 18th-centurymusic have changed considerably. The new edition comprises all works of the previous Wiener Urtext edition plus the sonata Hob. XVI:16 edited by Landon along with the Sonata in F major which was rediscovered in Bozen a few years ago and attributed to Joseph Haydn. The new edition is published in four volumes the content of each volume being compatible with the volumes of the previous edition. Volumes 1 and 2 contain the early sonatas. In the Notes on Interpretation Robert D. Levin explains important aspects of Haydn's performance practice.

The early sonatas. Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. Schubert was visibly adventurous in his early piano sonatas, as is apparent in their wide-ranging key schemes, diverging versions of many movements or entire sonatas, and numerous works left incomplete. This revised Urtext edition contains the sonatas he composed between 1815 and 1817. An updated preface and valuable notes on central questions of performance practice (e.g. articulation, pedalling and embellishments), with a special emphasis on his idiosyncratic treatment of accent-like diminuendo hairpins, form a useful introduction to the sonatas. Schubert?s drafts and fragments can be accessed on the Bärenreiter website. - Urtext edition based on the ?New Schubert Edition?, with drafts and fragments accessible on the Bärenreiter website (see BA 9642: Extras) - Reader-friendly engraving with practical page-turns and running titles to facilitate the location of sonatas and movements - Valuable notes on performance practice in Schubert?s day (Ger/Eng) - Critical Commentary with readings relevant to performance, especially regarding Schubert?s notation of accents (Eng) / Date parution : 2022-07-30/ Recueil / Piano

Instrumental Work Piano solo G. Henle
revised single edition from HN 38-Johannes Brahms?s piano sonatas opp. 1 2 and ...(+)
revised single edition from HN 38-Johannes Brahms?s piano sonatas opp. 1 2 and 5 were among the first works that the then 20-year-old composer published. Much of the music of the f-minor Sonata is closely connected to Brahms?s visit to Robert and Clara Schumannin Düsseldorf in the autumn of 1853. There are indications that the young Brahms was inspired by Robert Schumann?s Sonata op. 14 which was also in f minor. The music critic Eduard Hanslick also believed that he could discern theinfluence of Brahms?s older colleague when he wrote about the Sonata op. 5: ?The whole of Brahms is here though still under the spell of Schumann?. This revised Urtext edition is based on the musical text of the New BrahmsComplete Edition. The fingerings are by Andreas Boyde and offer the performer highly ingenious solutions to mastering this piano work that is so symphonic in scope.

Par HAYDN FRANZ JOSEF. Joseph Haydn?s popular Piano Sonata in D major comes from a group of six sonatas which Haydn had published as a collection by the Viennese publisher Artaria in 1780. The edition was dedicated to the sisters Katharina and Marianna Auenbrugger, two Viennese pianists whom the composer greatly admired: ?The approval of the Misses von Auenbrugger is most important to me; for their way of playing, and their genuine insight into music the music, equals that of the greatest masters.? In the Henle Urtext edition, taken from the revised volumes of the complete Haydn piano sonatas, Lars Vogt takes the place of the Auenbrugger sisters: he has added fingering, making this work, brimming with energy and yet technically easy to master, newly accessible for all piano enthusiasts. / Date parution : 2021-12-09/ Répertoire / Piano

Piano Sonata no. 10 op. 70-Scriabin's Tenth Sonata was composed at the same time as the two Sonatas Nos. 8 and 9 in winter 1912/13. It was probably finished at the latest in June 1913. According to Leonid Sabanejev's reminiscences Scriabin had alreadyperformed parts of the sonata to friends in spring 1913 saying that 'he had succeeded in simplifying the harmonies without destroying the Sonata's psychological complexity.' Following the first performance in Moscow a reviewerwrote: 'The Tenth Sonata must be counted amongst Scriabinâs most inspiring works [...] It is as if it were hewn out of a piece of granite: one can neither leave out a stroke nor add one - it is so strict and logical in itsentirety.'

Among the Piano sonatas by Joseph Haydn the Sonata in E flat Hob. XVI:49 is probably the piece we know most about in terms of genesis. It is one of the few sonatas that have survived in Haydn's own handwriting and the correspondence between Haydn and his 18 years younger admirer Marianne von Genzinger refers to the work several times. That alone was reason enough for Christa Landon the renowned editor of Haydn's Piano sonatas in the Wiener Urtext Edition to present an edition of this work with a facsimile of Haydn's autograph many years ago. The new edition now publishes the facsimile with the musicaltext newly revised by Ulrich Leisinger.
