Peer Gynt Suite No.2

Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg originally wrote Peer Gynt as the incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play of the same name which premiered in 1876. Later in 1888 and 1891 Grieg extracted eightmovements to make two four-movement suites: Suite No. 1 Op. 46 (Morning The death of Ã?se Anitra's dance and In the hall of the mountain king) and Suite No. 2 Op. 55 (The abduction of the bride Arabiandance Peer Gynt's homecoming (stormy evening on the sea) and Solveig's song). Some of these movements have received coverage in popular culture and are thus well-recognised everywhere.This edition of the Peer GyntSuites is arranged for Grade 8 Piano solo.

En 1888, Grieg organisé quatre pièces de sa musique de scène pour le drame verset Peer Gynt d'Ibsen pour former une suite d'orchestre (op. 46). Elle a été suivie en 1891 par une deuxième suite pour orchestre (op. 55) comprenant encore 4 pièces. Les deux suites sont rapidement devenus établis dans le répertoire de concert et ont largement contribué à la renommée internationale de Grieg. Il a fait des arrangements pour piano des deux suites et publié simultanément avec les suites pour orchestre en 1888 et 1893. Grieg ensuite fait d'autresajustements dans les pièces pour piano: raccourcir certains, par exemple 'Morning', et l'expansion d'autres comme 'La mort de l'ASE'. 88 Grieg arranged four pieces from his incidental music for Ibsen’s verse drama Peer Gynt to form an orchestral suite (Op. 46). This was followed in 1891 by a second orchestral suite (Op. 55) again comprising 4 pieces. Both suites quickly became established in the concert repertoire and contributed significantly to Grieg’s international fame. He made piano arrangements of both suites and published them simultaneously with the orchestral suites in 1888 and 1893. Grieg subsequently made further adjustments in the piano pieces: shortening some, for example ‘Morning’, and expanding others like ‘The Death of Åse’. Overall, Grieg reduces the dramatic orchestral conception in favour of a more intimate expression and more restrained effects.
