Children for a New World was written at a time when many children worldwide skipped school and took to the streets to campaign for better climate control. This youth movement ‘Fridays for Future’ was inspired by the Swedish student Greta Thunberg and helps everybody to think about the future for us and our children. Young people are important for the future of our music bands too. Wind bands can play a significant part in children’s social and musical lives and are an ideal way to initiate cooperation between primary schools and the local community. Children for a New World is a good way to integrate class bands into local wind bands and provides a unique opportunity to perform in a larger ensemble. Accompanied by a youth or adult band or even both the class band will be at the centre of the performance.In Children for a New World you may recognise fragments from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 ‘From the New World’. Par ARNALDS OLAFUR. Ólafur Arnalds is one of the best-known Icelandic musicians and composers. His compositions move between indie, neo-classical and electronic music. His work, both as a musician and as a film composer, has been critically acclaimed worldwide, earning him a BAFTA award for Best Original Score as well as Grammy and Emmy nominations. Over the course of his career, he has released five albums as well as dozens of EPs, collaborations, and various projects. Ólafur\'s live shows are often quite unorthodox for a neo-classical composer and have sold out many of the world\'s most prestigious live venues. His last album, some kind of peace (2020), earned him two Grammy nominations and reached the UK Top 40. The songbook \'some kind of peace - for piano\' contains new arrangements of the 10 songs from Ólafur\'s album of the same name as well as lavish artwork and liner notes. This anthem The Peace That Surpasseth Understanding by John Tavener was commissioned jointly by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster and the Ministry of Defence. It was first performed at a Service in Honourof the Passing of the World War One Generation in Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 11th November 2009 in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh by the Choir of Westminster Abbeyconducted by James O’Donnell. COMPOSER’S NOTEIn this setting of Saint Paul’s great statement I have tried in a simple and primordial manner to suggest majesty solemnity and a radiance of peace andbliss. I have also given the music a ceremonial nature by inserting ‘Allelouias’ sounding from ‘Heaven’ (semi-chorus) gradually rising in pitch until they are answered by ‘Allelouias’ from‘The World’ (main choir). The music forms a gradual crescendo reflecting the meaning of the words. At the musical and spiritual climax the full organ sounds four chords which represent The Four Angels beforethe Throne of God. The final chord then transforms into the sacred monosyllable OM which hums around the building representing the Peace and Beatitude of God’s Presence. Duration: c. 4 minutes
