Zur BearbeitungSeine erste Orgel-Sonate komponierte Guilmant 1874 und widmete sie dem belgischen König Leopold II. Besonderen Anklang fand bereits in der Uraufführung der Mittelsatz der Sonate, die Pastorale. Es handelt sich bei ihr um eine typische Hirtenmusik im 12/8-Takt, bei der die Oboe und Klarinette der Orgel mit lieblichen Melodien korrespondieren. Im Mittelteil tritt noch ein Choral hinzu, der mit den Melodien der Pastorale umspielt wird. Auch die Flöte zählt zu den Instrumenten der Hirten, die in dieser Bearbeitung mit einem weichen Oboen-, Klarinettenregister oder auch einem schönen Flötenregister der Orgel in Dialog treten kann. Da die Originalliteratur des 19. Jahrhunderts für Flöte und Orgel nur dünn besetzt ist, kann die vorliegende Bearbeitung eine willkommene Ergänzung des Repertoires für diese reizvolle Kombination nicht nur zur Weihnachtszeit sein, die leicht zu realisieren ist und Musiker und Publikum in Liturgie und Konzert erfreuen kann. “Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) was a prolific Czech composer, writing many large scale works. The composer moved to Paris in 1923 where he began experimenting in a variety of composition styles. Pastorales for Cello and Piano was published in 1931 and is made up of six pieces. Martinu himself was a violinist and the beginning of his experiments in composing for solo instruments saw him write for strings. Pastorales for Cello exemplifies the composer's influence of Stravinsky, Debussy neoclassicism, surrealism and jazz. Mariss Jansons (Kompositionsauftrag des BR),,Nirai beschreibt ein imaginiertes Land ein Paradies. Zu Beginn meiner Arbeit hatte ich diese beiden Vorstellungen: von einer Fuge und von den Wurzeln auf Okinawa einer tropischen Insel im Suden Japans. Dort haben viele Baume ganz unglaubliche Formen besonders die Wurzeln haben mich fasziniert. Sie ergeben ausserst komplizierte und organische Gebilde die mich an eine Frage erinnerten. ,,Nirai heisst wortlich ,,aus den Wurzeln kommend oder ,,in Richtung der Wurzeln oder auch ,,Land der Wurzeln. Man verwendet dieses Wort um etwas zu beschreiben das aus der Vergangenheit kommt und das noch heute also in der Gegenwart sinnvoll ist. Genau wie es in Platons ,,Phaidon heisst: Alle alten Dinge kommen aus den neuen und alle neuen Dinge kommen aus den alten. Ich wollte diese Dualitat oder Interaktion zwischen zwei verschiedenen Epochen darstellen. Als Beethoven seine Symphonien schrieb benutzte er die kompositorischen Moglichkeiten die ihm zu jener Zeit zur Verfugung standen. Ich wollte das auch. Wir haben heutzutage ein riesigen Archiv an Techniken und Asthetiken auf die wir zuruckgreifen konnen. Wir konnen aus ihnen die passenden auswahlen oder sie auch kombinieren. In gewisser Weise kann man auch zu diesem Archiv ,,Nirai sagen denn es stellt das Erbe eines Volkes dar. Also wollte ich gerne eine alte Satzweise verwenden die heutzutage nicht so oft zum Einsatz kommt. Ursprunglich wollte ich das ganze Intermezzo in Fugentechnik schreiben. Aber das hat sich als zu schwierig herausgestellt. Ein Rest dieser ursprunglich geplanten Fuge ist am Anfang noch erkennbar. Die Faktur insgesamt ist eher einfach gehalten. Im Stuck ist ein stetes Accelerando angelegt fur den Horer gut wahrnehmbar obwohl mehrere Melodien gleichzeitig in unterschiedlichen Geschwindigkeiten erklingen.Was den Beethoven-Bezug betrifft so nahm ich eine kurze Phrase aus dem Schluss des letzten Satzes der Zweiten Symphonie funf kurze Wechselnoten. Daraus entwickelte ich das Stuck. Bei Beethoven steht diese Phrase in D-Dur naturlich ubernahm ich die Tonart nicht. Was mich reizte war die Tatsache dass es sich um eine kleine Sekunde handelt - das Intervall das in der zeitgenossischen Musik bevorzugt verwendet wird. Die kleine Sekunde ist sehr flexibel sie ermoglicht einem viele Formen der Verwendung. Beethoven war seinen Zeitgenossen vor allem als genialer Improvisator bekannt also nahm ich diese kleine Phrase als Thema einer Improvisation und behandelte es auf sehr freie Art. Von der Sechsten Symphonie entnahm ich keine musikalischen Zitate; stattdessen entwickle ich dieses kurze Intermezzo in ,,pastoraler Form.(Misato Mochizuki) UA der zweisatzigen Fassung: 21.10.2011 NULL World premiere version with two sets: Oct. 21 2011 NULL.

In the style of commedia dell'arteIn 1918 Gabriel Faure, then 73 years old, received a commission from Prince Albert I of Monaco to write stage music invoking the atmosphere of the commedia dell'arte.The four-movement orchestral suite op. 112, consisting of Ouverture, Menuet, Gavotte and Pastorale, combines previously unpublished parts of this stage music. The Pastorale of 1919 was Faure's last composition for orchestra, the Ouverture originated in a piece of 1864 for piano duet and the original version of the Gavotte was written for piano as early as 1869. The op. 112 orchestral suite demonstrates how the composer, now older and more experienced, reworked and improved his earlier music.This scholarly-critical edition of the four-movement Masques et Bergamasques op. 112 is based on Gabriel Faure The Complete Works, Volume IV/2.

Per Norgard DANCERS AROUND JUPITER I: 'Shadow Dancer', dedicated to Axel Borup-Jorgensen, as my birthday greeting on the composer's 70th birthday 22.11.94 II: 'Jupiter Waves', dedicated to Dr. Jeffrey D. Thompson III: 'Day Dancer', dedicated to the dancer and choreographer Marie Lalander, as a homage: Marie wrote the line which inspired me for the title: 'Woman, oh you day dancer'. The title of the whole work is immediately intelligible if one compares the individual titles of the outer movements with the title of the middle movement. Axel Borup-Jorgensen and Marie Lalander could be said to be in rotation around Jupiter in the following sense: Axel's music has a 'shadowdancing' side, which can most clearly be heard in his works for harpsichord and double-bass - or in his work for organ. But his music has also a light side, which can be heard in 'Marin' or in 'Nordic Summer Pastorale'. Marie's dance and choreography contain both ecstatic forces of light and expressions of the suppressed and dark. The music of the middle movement on the other hand is in all ways inspired by the actual acoustic ion waves, that constantly arise through the collision of the sun wind with Jupiter's magnet field (registered by Voyager II, 1989). This movement is dedicated to Dr Jeffrey D. Thompson who made these NASA registrations publicly available in the CD-series 'NASA Voyager Space Sounds'. Per Norgard.
