Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 7 Orgelbüchlein - with CD-ROM - ed. by Sven Hiemke Of great practical value ?This edition has everything it takes to replace the Griepenkerl edition for practical music-making,? opined Rainer Goede (in ?kirchmusik.de?) immediately after the release of Volumes 5 and 6. If such a high degree of practical value is attested to these two volumes, then Volume 7 can proudly claim to have the highest practical value of all, since it has the greatest scope of all the volumes. After all, no organist can do without the basic repertoire of the 45 chorale preludes. Edited by Sven Hiemke, the book offers the best possible prerequisites for everyday use. The musical text is as faithful to the sources as possible, and it preserves Bach?s graphic idiosyncrasies in the beaming of eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Furthermore, the chorales are reproduced on three staves, which is fully in keeping with the practice of the Bach era ? but not with the source, however, since the composer himself notated the pieces of the ?Orgelbüchlein? on two staves, either for reasons of economy or for lack of space. The enclosed CD-ROM contains early versions and anonymous arrangements which should encourage organists to explore this repertoire in greater depth.

Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 5 Sonatas / Trios / Concertos - ed. by Pieter Dirksen Organ Works Based on Compositions by Bach and Others Genres such as sonata, trio and concerto were initially uncommon in the keyboard music of the early 18th century. Thus it comes as no surprise that many of the pieces in this volume are arrangements by Bach of original compositions and of works by other composers. Next to the Sonatas BWV 525?530 and the Concertos or concerto movements based on pieces by other composers BWV 592?596, the volume also contains the Trio in D minor BWV 583, the Trio settings BWV 585?587 as well as the early versions of BWV 527 and 528. Moreover, the CD-ROM offers eight arrangements of trio movements by Bach made by others. In his detailed introduction, Pieter Dirksen discusses various aspects of these pieces' origins, inasmuch as they help us better understand the works. The organist will especially welcome the comments on performance practice and registration. It is precisely the fact that these works derive from chamber-music models that leads to individual considerations for each work group.

Gerard Bunk (1888?1958) was one of the greatest organists of the first half of the 20th century who, besides Reger, was able to develop his own characteristic style. His organ compositions divide into free individual works, character pieces, chorale preludes and six large-scale concert works.

Volume IV contains organ works composed between 1912 and 1915, comparable in quality with works by Max Reger and Sigfrid Karg-Elert. Harmonically bold and full of individual style, they are one of the last milestones in the late Romantic style before the advent of the Organ Reform Movement.

This Urtext edition, prepared by the composer?s grandson, is the result of extensive, meticulous research into the sources and reflects the latest musicological findings. Each volume contains a detailed foreword, numerous facsimiles and illustrations and a critical commentary.

Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 6 Clavierübung III / Schübler-Choräle / Canonische Veränderungen über 'Vom Himmel hoch' - ed. by Werner Breig Bach Organ Works Printed During the Composer's Lifetime Volume 6 contains the chorale-related organ works that Bach personally had printed: the Dritte Theil der Clavier Übung was published (for organists) in 1739; the Sechs Choräle von verschiedener Art (Schübler-Choräle) and the Canonische Veränderungen were released in separate editions most likely in 1747/48. None of these collections had from the start the appearance which the composer considered as valid in the end. For this reason, Werner Breig focuses in particular on questions of origin in his introduction. Fundamental findings on the genesis of the Clavier Übung III were made only after the publication of the work in the Neue Bach-Ausgabe. The basically unproblematic state of the sources means that this volume contains no CD-ROM with supplementary materials. It was, however, considered editorially necessary to print the Canonische Veränderungen BWV 769 in three versions: as a facsimile of the original print, in a practical arrangement, and in the autograph version (BWV 769a). Flor Peeters, born in Belgium in 1903, is one of the most important organists and organ composers of the 20th century. After completing his studies at the famous Lemmens Institute in Mechelen, he worked there as a teacher of organ and improvisation before becoming professor at and director of the Royal Flemish Conservatoire of Antwerp. Until his death in 1986, Peeters gave concerts all around the world, held numerous master classes and received several awards and prizes for his achievements as a composer, organist and teacher. Fantasien und Fugen/Einzelwerke - mit CD-ROM-Although the “fantasia” was already considered as old-fashioned around 1700 this genre exerted a particular fascination on the very young Bach – he had since relocated to Köthen – and the experienced composer as well.Volume 3 the latest installment in the Complete Organ Works gathers together all transmitted organ fantasias by Bach the fragments of the fugues belonging to them and all individual fugues as well. They include for instance the Fantasia in C BWV 570 undoubtedly the master’s oldest free organ work.The most notable works in this edition are the celebrated Fantasia in g minor BWV 542/1 and the Fuga in g BWV 542/2. Max Reger's Free Organ Pieces-Volumes 3 and 4 in our Complete Edition - are short works of various levels of difficulty. They are a real find for all organists who have not felt sufficiently proficient to tackle the technical demands of the monumental organ fantasias. Some of these intentionally simple and clearly-structured works might even contain elements which Gould lead to a revised conception of Reger's works better suited to our times.

French composer organist and pianist Alexandre Boëly (1785-1858) was born into a family of musicians. Having received musical education from an early age Boëly led a successful career. His Organ works remain prominent within the instrument's repertoire. The series of Boëly's Complete Works was assembled by Norbert Dufourcq and Brigitte François-Sappey. The third volume contains a variety of Boëly's most famous works including Noels Chorales and other compositions. Fantasy in D minor (No. 1) was written in 1957 by one of the most effectual composers of the twentieth century Miloslav Kabelá (1908–1979) on the initiative of the prominent Czech organist Ji í Reinberger (1914–1977). It was the composer’s first work for solo organ and he later confessed that “… my love of the organ began with this Fantasy and did not end.”He composed Fantasy in D minor in the same year that he completed his cult classics Mysterium asu (Mystery of Time) and Symphony No. 3 (with organ) and the piece soon became a staple of organ repertoire at home andabroad. The following year he composed Fantasy in G minor (No. 2) by commission for the 1st International Organ Competition of Prague Spring 1958.Although Kabelá joined both fantasies into one opus 32 they had as yet been published separately. The present edition is the first to include the whole of Op. 32 in one volume.
