Oboe School Band 1

This dramatic work for young players is intended to portray a noble mystical pursuit of some great conquest or accomplishment. Full of driving percussion resolving tone clusters dramatic brass writing and spectacular tutti musical statements it also features easy passages for solo oboe bassoon and piccolo. This piece is a great choice for excellent middle school or smaller high school bands. It is generously cross cued to be performed with limited instrumentation.

Commissioned for the Wisconsin Lutheran High School's centennial year this expansive work incorporates the Welsh folk song ?The Ash Grove? in a lush and varied treatment. The main melody played first by horns andbaritone returns near the end in a glorious fully orchestrated chorale. In between is a beautiful secondary theme played by oboe and flute soloists followed by a dramatic fugal section. A musically rewarding and effective piece.(6:00)

Mark Jeanbourquin wrote Musicavenir (Music of the Future), on leaving the eponymous music school whose band he had conducted for some years. For every farewell there?s a new beginning, and this piece opens with ?Ausblick in die Zukunft? (Outlook on the Future) an explosive first section in ABA form. This is then followed by a calmer, lyrical passage before Musicavenir finally closes as the powerful opening theme is sounded again.

Cradle Hymn, a Christmas lullaby with imagery of Mary and her infant, was written for the Nidaros Cathedral Girl's Choir and conductor Anita Brevik in 2010, and later arranged for SATB and TTBB chorus. The Lyrics were written by Isaac Watts (1674-1748). This arrangement was written by Christian Aftreth Eriksen in 2021, commissioned by Bunberry High School, Australia. It is scored for large concert band, but is playable for smaller forces through clever cross cuing: Eb clarinet, Contrabass Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone, Contrabassson and Double Bass can all be considered ad lib. All Oboes, Bass Clarinet, Bassoons and all Horns are cross cued. A Soprano Saxophone part is provided to cover the Oboe solos, and should only be used if no Oboes are available. Four-part flexible chamber music arrangements featuring a soloist. The Centre Stage series bringing well-known classics to early-level players has become so popular with schools and music centres that further titles have been requested! The rousing Joy to the World and gentle Silent Night are undoubtedly Christmas favourites and would make an excellent choice for your Christmas concert.The scoring is flexible (the ‘soloist’ in Part 1 as an example could be for flute oboe violin clarinet or alto saxophone) and whilst written for a chamber group larger ensembles can also use Centre Stage with more players joining each part. An optional piano part has beenincluded for rehearsal or to support the performance.

Two solos in jazz idiom for pedal or non-pedal harp-Two solos in the jazz idiom for Pedal or Non-Pedal Harp by Stewart Green. Stewart Green began writing music for the Piano at an early age. Taking up the Viola and Oboe in his teens he later went to the University College of North Wales (Bangor) where he studied composition with among others William Matthias and Reginald Smith Brindle. Gaining a B. Mus. (hons) degree in 1960 he returned to his old school in Richester to teach class and instrumental music. Four years later he enlisted as oboist to the Band of HM Coldstream Guards which opened many doors including performances of his compositions and arrangements in many National venues on discand broadcast by the BBC on Radios 2 & 3. His years at Bangor had enabled him to fulfil a childhood dream of learning the Harp which he was later able to develop when he left the army and moved with his wife Sue and young family to Lowestoft as a peripatetic woodwind tutor for Suffolk County Music Service. His Flights Of Fancy and Blistering Along! appear on ABRSM and Trinity College Harp examination syllabuses while the Spartan Press publication Saxofun is on Suffolk's own exam syllabus. Since 1999 Stewart has been senior Woodwind Tutor for Suffolk and since 2002 Harp tutor as well! Stewart's recent publication She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain was written for the North Suffolk String Orchestra as was Haunted House. Spookily this received its first performance at Lowestoft accompanied by a July Thunderstorm!
