Ledwidge started writing at an early age and was first published in a local newspaper when he was fourteen years old. Ledwidge left the local national school shortly after and worked as a farm hand, road surface mender, and copper miner at Beaupark Mine near Slane. Ledwidge became friends with a local landowner, the writer Lord Dunsany, who gave him a workspace in the library of Dunsany Castle and introduced him to literary figures, including William Butler Yeats and Katherine Tynan. Some of Ledwidgeâ??s manuscripts are held in the National Library of Ireland. The main surviving collection, including his early works and personal letters, are in the archives of Dunsany Castle.

The chorale cantatas are Reger's most personal and most substantial contribution to one of the principal categories of Protestant church music, and they are the only major works in this field by one of the foremost composers of his time. In order to make Reger's choral works more widely usable in English-speaking countries, the publishers have added a singable English translation to the voice parts. The Missa brevis in C Major, for 4 vocal parts and organ, was long considered one of young Mozart's excercises in The Italian style of church music. Karl Pfannhauser, after his studies of Leopold Mozart's masses, was the first to discover that the C-major fragment had been incorporated into the latter's Missa solemnis in C Major. As Mozart was only 8 years old at the time his father wrote this mass, he cannot be deemed the composer of the fragmentary C-major mass that is listed as KV 115. The mass contains only the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo and Sanctus, the last of which breaks off in bar 9. For the present edition our aim was to draw upon Leopold's own works for the missing parts. Georg Philipp Telemann has long been perceived as a composer of sacred music, and particularly of the German-language church cantata. However, in the course of his long life he also composed church works setting Latin texts. In addition to works for smaller ensembles there is presently only one larger psalm setting, Deus judicium tuum, that is available in a new edition. This is now joined by the first ever scholarly, critical edition of his Magnificat in C major. Telemann probably composed this impressive work for the dedication of the organ in the Leipzig Neukirche in 1704. Like Bach's well-known Magnificat, it is scored for three trumpets and timpani. For ambitious church choirs, the work is really worthwhile, and is also a most effective piece for audiences to enjoy. Score available separately - see item CA.3914300.
