Kitty Alone is the latest in series of captivating picture books, each based on a beloved songtale from the great American folk music heritage, and collected by John M. Feierabend. This beautifully illustrated version of Kitty Alone was conceived by illustrator Mina Echevarria, who suggested setting the song in the Appalachian Mountains and using a bobcat as the title character. Since they are rarely seen in the daytime, Appalachian locals refer to the bobcat as the “woods ghost.†Here the illustrations create the ghostly bobcat in the evening darkness of the forest encountering several delightful friends. Also notice the red thread that appears throughout.  Find it in the last picture…was it all just a dream? Like the other picture books in John M. Feierabend’s First Steps in Music series, Kitty Alone includes a description of the history of the song, the notation of the song, and a link to download the song sung by Jill Trinka at no cost. The song may be downloaded in audio: FREE MP3 Download - Full Performance MP3 download instructions: Windows users right click on the link. Mac users hold down the Control key as you click the link. Click here to download the 2020 Supplement to First Steps in Music. Over the past year, a committee formed by the Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME) developed a set of standards for evaluating repertoire associated with the curriculum. With their guidance, we have removed several songs that were deemed to be harmful, derogatory, or disrespectful in regard to their histories or context. We have also added a number of new songs and rhymes from a variety of world cultures. The above link details these revisions for the curriculum book and the supplemental folk song collections.  The great American folk songs and rhymes on this CD have enthralled young people for generations. This recording embodies the true spirit of these songs, delightfully sung by Jill Trinka and accompanied by a wide variety of acoustic instruments, including guitar, dulcimer, autoharp, piano, percussion, string bass, and violin. The enclosed illustrated booklet includes complete lyrics and song directions. And all of the performances are in step with John M. Feierabend’s philosophy of providing a nurturing environment for musical growth. Children and their families are sure to enjoy this and the other imaginative and engaging CDs drawn from John’s eight collections of folk songs for kids ages three and up. Adam Granger self-published the first edition of Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar in 1979. A second edition was published in 1994. Now Mel Bay Publications presents the third edition of the book.
This 236-page book is the most extensive and best-documented collection of fiddle tunes for the flatpicking guitar player in existence, and includes reels, hoedowns, hornpipes, rags, breakdowns, jigs and slip-jigs, presented in Southern, Northern, Irish, Canadian, Texas and Old-time styles.
There are 508 fiddle tunes referenced under 2500 titles and alternate titles. The titles are fully indexed, making the book doubly valuable as a reference book and a source book.
In this new edition, all tunes are typeset, instead of being handwritten as they were in the previous editions, making the tabs easier to read.
The tunes in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are presented in Easytab, a streamlined tablature notation system designed by Adam specifically for fiddle tunes.
The book comes with a link which gives access to mp3 recordings by Adam of all 508 tunes, each played once at a moderate tempo, with rhythm on one channel and lead on the other.
Also included in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are instructions for reading Easytab, descriptions of tune types presented in the book, and primers on traditional flatpicking and rhythm guitar. Additionally, there are sections on timing, ornamentation, technique, and fingering, as well as information on tune sources and a history of the collection.
Mel Bay also offers The Granger Collection, by Bill Nicholson, the same 508 tunes in standard music notation.
