In 1725 J.S. Bach composed the cantata BWV79 'Gott, der Herr, is Sonn' und Schild for the celebration of the Reformation. Originally written for 3 vocal soloists, choir and orchestra Cantata No.79 is partially based on the well known hymn Now Thank We All Our God, the melody of which is attributed to Martin Rinckart.
