For this work the Japanese composer Hayato Hirose dug deep into his own imagination to fi nd the right inspiration. It is about a young boy who dreams about reaching paradise (Arcadia) and sets out on a journey to find it. This journey is long and treacherous but despite the many challenges he faces the boy finally does reach his Arcadia. The result is a very dramatic work that will take your audience on a breath-taking journey.

Par SPARKE PHILIP. A Centennial Journey est une commande de l’ensemble norvégien Stavanger Musikkorps av 1919 pour célébrer son centenaire, en 2019. L’orchestre a créé cette pièce sous la direction de Morten E. Hansen lors de son concert de jubilé au Konserthus de Stavanger, le 28 septembre 2019. La pièce s’ouvre de façon spectaculaire avec une ample mélodie aux cors et saxophones sous des figures fleuries aux vents, puis s’amplifie en un climax majestueux. Un trio pour les trombones apaise l’ambiance jusqu’au retour de la première mélodie dans une forme plus douce qui s’élargit finalement en un molto vivo élaboré. Les figures des vents se poursuivent sur une série de trios pour cuivres jusqu’à l’apparition du thème principal de la pièce par les clarinettes et les euphoniums. Ce passage se développe pour mener à un changement de tonalité et une longue mélodie en forme d’hymne par les clarinettes et les cors. Cette mélodie est alors reprise par l’orchestre entier, des fanfares se faisant entendre sporadiquement. In 2006 Brabant will be celebrating it’s 900th anniversary. On May 13th 1106 the count Van Leuven was appointed duke of Brabant. This was the birth of the duchy of Brabant. For centuries this duchy situated in the heart of the Netherlands was the primary of the seventeen provinces in the Lowlands. Brabant formed with it’s capital cities Brussels Leuven Antwerp and ‘s-Hertogenbosch the focal point for politics culture and economy. The revolution against Spain (1566-1648) caused a fracture between the North and South. The old duchy was divided into a Dutch and Belgian part. Even though each had their own historical background the bond forged in the past was partially keptalive. To this day we still have a duke of Brabant. Brabantia Aeterna takes you on a musical journey through 900 years of Brabant history. A fascinating journey portraying war and peace love and grief prosperity and adversity development and deterioration. Listen to how monks chanted bells tolled and churches were built. Or take the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries with their bustling markets builders of cities or the bleating of countless sheep across the heather. The plague tribulations soldiers and political bickering in the following centuries. Hear how the industrialisation of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries provided prosperity for the region and how to this day the following saying still applies: ‘the road to Brabant leads to a warmer world’ Brabantia Aeterna was commissioned by the Brabantse Bond van Muziekverenigingen (Brabant Music Society) in honour of its fifth anniversary.

from The Wild Swans Suite-Eliza?s Aria is a classical aria from the ballet Wild Swans composed by Uzbekistan composer Elena Kats-Chernin. The piece was first recorded by soprano Jane Sheldon and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and released on the ABC Classics label. This recording was subsequently used in the 2007 Lloyds TSB ?For the Journey? television and cinema advertisements and also received extensive radio airplay in December 2007. It was also used as the basis for ?The Journey Continues? a dance track by DJ Mark Brown featuring Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne which was released in February 2008.

This lyrical piece features a memorable melody that is presented by all sections of the band. These reflective presentations lead into a slightly faster minor section indicating the anticipation of plans for the future. The final presentation of the melody indicates a positive feeling of accomplishment and features a moving countermelody by the woodwinds leading to a quiet, contemplative ending.
