Les compositeurs tentèrent sans cesse de s’approprier pour d’autres instruments ce morceau exceptionnel. L’arrangement le plus connu est certainement celui de Ferruccio Busoni. Sans trop s’éloigner de l’original de Bach, Busoni adapta aux possibilités de l’instrument à clavier la virtuosité du violon, parvenant ainsi à créer un morceau pour piano qui tire profit, de manière tout aussi géniale, des ressources offertes par le piano moderne. En plus des sources traditionnelles, nous avons, pour notre édition Urtext, examiné pour la première fois de manière si approfondie un rouleau pour piano, sur lequel on entend Busoni lui-même. Ferruccio Busoni Préludes de chorals (Johann Sebastian Bach) Editeur: Christian Schaper, Ullrich Scheideler Doigtés: Marc-André Hamelin Les dix Préludes de chorals sont, avec la Chaconne pour violon seul, les transcriptions pour piano d??uvres de J. S. Bach les plus connues de la main de Busoni. Contrairement à la Chaconne que Busoni destina au concert, il transcrivit les Préludes de chorals en «style de chambre». Une grande partie de ce cosmos organo-pianistique convient aussi aux pianistes amateurs avancés. Nous publions pour la première fois la version de dernière main de Busoni en édition Urtext moderne, à laquelle s?ajoutent les précieux doigtés de Marc-André Hamelin. L?annexe contient en plus un onzième Prélude de choral, jamais publié auparavant: la tentative de Busoni de transcrire «Aus tiefer Not». Le compositeur lui-même déclara que l?exécution de cette polyphonie à six voix «exige le maximum de l'interprète» ? mais jugez vous-même!

Bach, who was a church musician and court harpsichordist active in Erfurt and Eisenach, they are sometimes intimately connected to Johann Sebastian Bach, who copied the orchestral works of his second cousin for study purposes. Arrangement for Piano-Alongside his Chaconne for Violin the ten Chorale Preludes for Organ are Busoni’s best-known Piano transcriptions of works by J. S. Bach. Whilst Busoni envisaged the Chaconnefor concert performance the Chorale Preludes are transcribed in a 'chamber-music style'. The Preludes in this book are of varying levels of difficulty some are suitable for intermediate level players andothers for the more advanced pianist. This Henle Urtext Edition is Busoni's definitive version with valuable fingering suggestions by Marc-André Hamelin. The appendix contains an eleventh chorale prelude Busoni’s transcription of “Aus tiefer Not” which is published here for the very first time. With regard to performing its six-part setting the composer himself spoke of an“extreme performance limit” – but why not judge for yourself?

This edition offers transcriptions for guitar edited by Frédéric Zigante of J.S. Bach?s entire works for lute and his famous Chaconne. This is a practical publication for both students and teachers at conservatories and music schools. Texts are in French Italian and English.

Arrangement for Piano-Aside from the Violin Chaconne (HN 557) and the ten Chorale Preludes for Organ (HN 1293) the Prelude and Fugue in D major ranks among the best-known Piano transcriptions Busoni fashioned from J. S. Bach?s works. Considerable evidence suggests that he viewed these three pieces as paradigmatic examples of his transcription technique. Busoni?s explicit labelling of the Prelude and Fugue ?for concert performance? in the title already serves as an indication of the heightened virtuosic requirements. And indeed here Busoni demands that the pianist have perfectly mastered the keyboard always with the aim of delegating to the Piano effectively but still in the spirit of Bach the mighty sound-world of the Organ work. This Urtext edition is heartily recommended to all those pianists who have ever wanted finally to pull out all the stops on the Piano.
