The Fantasy Pieces op. 88 are Schumann's first contribution to the genre of the piano trio and date from his very prolific “chamber music year” 1842. However, Schumann needed an unusually long time to give the work its final form: the Fantasy Pieces were released only in the autumn of 1850 after several revisions. The brevity and the modest technical demands of the four charming character pieces make them an ideal entry into the world of Schumann's chamber music also for non-professional musicians. The Fantasy Pieces, taken from the volume Schumann • Piano Trios HN 916, are now available from Henle for the first time also as a practical single edition.

Written by Marcel Grandjany on a tune of Haydn, Fantasy is a piece for Harp that includes 5 variations of the main theme. Ideally to be played on pedal Harp, it would fit the skills and abilities of advanced Harp players. The technical difficulties encountered are various as this piece involves some hand-crossings, arpeggios, natural harmonies, accidental alterations as well as some pedal changes. Marcel Grandjany is a French-born American who lived in the 20th century. He studied with Alphonse Hasselmans at the Paris Conservatoire from the age of 11 and got the First Prize at 13 years old. He composed numerous pieces for Harp, of all levels: '3 Very Easy Little Pieces, Op. 7', 'Divertissement, Op. 29', 'Variation on the Londonderry Air, Op. 20' and 'Two Duets for 2 harps, Op. 26' among many others..
Fantasy On A Theme Of Liszt was written in 1967 for a Cheltenham Festival concert. The theme which lies behind the work is the opening tune of Liszt's Faust Symphony, though this is never heard in its original form but is rather used as a thematic reservoir from which the music is derived. It is dedicated to the American composer and conductor Bernard Herrmann.
