Expressive Etudes

The selections written in a variety of tempos textures and styles span four centuries of keyboard studies and have been chosen for both their expressive and technical content. One example is Little Bird by Grieg which highlights the musicality of written out trills imitating bird calls. These etudes are also a musical resource for intermediate adults who need additional reinforcement in technique. Par LACOTE THOMAS. Ces trois pièces ont été composées entre 2012 et 2015 sur l'orgue Cavaillé-Coll/Beuchet-Debierre de l'église de la Trinité à Paris. Pour The Fifth Hammer et Etude de transparence, la présence de deux boîtes expressives est indispensable. Pour Quilisma, une seule boîte expressive est nécessaire. Dans le cas d'une exécution complète de ce deuxième cahier, Quilisma peut être partagée entre les deux interprètes : l'un prend alors la place de l'autre à la mesure 62. Pour ne pas surcharger la partition, seul un numéro de combinaison est noté sur la partition pour chaque changement de registration. Il renvoie à la table des combinaisons jointe en 'partie séparée' pour chaque pièce. The Fifth Hammer La partition est proposée dans deux versions. La première, pensée pour les ressources de l'orgue de la Trinité, utilise une palette étendue (notamment Quinte 22/3 au Grand-Orgue, Tierce et Piccolo au Positif, Tierce au Récit, jeu d'anche de 16' à chaque clavier). La seconde est une adaptation pour un orgue de dimensions plus restreintes (pas de Quinte 22/3 au Grand-Orgue, pas de Tierce au Récit, pas de jeu d'anche de 16' au Positif) à partir du modèle de l'orgue Rieger du Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP). Aux mesures 1 à 23, quel que soit la clavier sur lequel il joue, l'interprète placé à gauche manipule la boîte expressive du Positif, et celui à droite celle du Récit, selon la disposition habituelle. Durant cette section, on veillera à ouvrir et fermer très progressivement les boîtes expressives, avec un maximum d'amplitude et de précision. Quilisma Dans cette pièce, les passages notés avec une grande précision rythmique visent en premier lieu l'efficacité qualitative d'un phénomène sonore global : ils seront donc interprétés, comme le reste de la pièce, avec la souplesse nécessaire. Mes. 37 : Pour ne pas surcharger la partition, les liaisons ne sont pas notées. Lier toutes les notes communes entre les accords. Mes. 63 : Chaque son, joué initialement au Récit (sans cercle) ou au Positif (avec cercle), est tenu, jusqu'à son passage à l'autre clavier ou une croix. Aucune hauteur n'est jouée simultanément sur les deux claviers à la fois. Durant ce passage, on cherchera le maximum de legato et de continuité dans l'échange entre les deux claviers. Etude de transparence Durant toute la pièce, veiller à ouvrir et fermer très progressivement les boîtes expressives, avec un maximum d'amplitude et de précision. / Contemporain / Etude / Orgue

Paul Jeanjean was the principal clarinetist of the Garde Républicaine Band and later of the MonteCarlo opera and was obviously a musician of the greatest sensitivity. His etudes are hightly developed concert works that can make for very impressive additions to recital programs.Jeanjean provided wonderfully detailed directions for his etudes. Charles Neidich has by and large left what he has written and have only brought Jeanjean's notation more into accord with modern conventions; e.g. that accidentals within a measure generally do not transpose octaves. This edition's notes at the bottom of each page explain the various modern chords andscales (augmented chords 9th chords whole tone scales for instance) he used in each of his etudes. These unfortunately were eliminated in the previous English version.The noteworthy feature of this edition is the recording of Charles Neidich's performance of the etudes. Rather than clutter Jeanjean's already expressively notated scores with still more markings the recording offers as a window into the modern yet romantic style of the etudes and as models of the kind of performance to which the student should aspire.

Afin de conjuguer pédagogie et musicalité, Damien Guille a écrit les Etudes expressives pour des élèves du milieu de 1er cycle à la fin du 2e cycle (1 volume par niveau). Many violists have grown up on a diet of Violin studies transcribed for Viola and plenty have thrived on them even though the studies are in many cases composed with melodic patterns and fingerings that suit the Violin better than the Viola. Robin Ireland's aim in composing this new study material was to write specifically for the Viola in ways which suit it both technically and tonally.The twelve concert études set out to be musically attractive pieces which in addition to addressing most basic aspects of technique will encourage the development of 'musical' and expressive playing.The set of études is unusual perhaps unique in that it covers a rangeof styles and thus provides a focus for developing an understanding of bowing and articulation appropriate to different periods of music. The first eight études move through baroque classical and romantic styles while the later études include material for developing confidence with metre change and other basic rhythmic skills and with atonality. The last étude introduces an improvisatory style of playing.The concert études should be appropriate for Viola students from Grade 8 upwards. These studies are each focused primarily on a single area of technical development in many cases an area not specifically addressed in currently available study material.The new études do not set out to provide a comprehensive alternative to existing study material but rather to complement it and extend its range.

Selected from the Vocalises of Marco Bordogni Transcribed and Progressively Arranged by J. Rochut-If you have played and studied the trombone then it is likely you are familiar with the book commonly referred to as the ?Rochut? book. In 1928 Joannes Rochut edited Melodious Etudes For Trombone published by Carl Fischer Music. Rochut thoroughly selected and edited the wonderfully lyrical vocalises composed by master vocal pedagogue Marco Bordogni and so the study of the trombone was forever changed. After more than 80 years Carl Fischer Music editors decided it was time to give this long-established publication a fresh new look. We asked the renowned trombonist and author Alan Raph to re-edit the book to fix errors that haveexisted since its inception. It was Raph?s intent however to preserve the important pedagogical sequence established by Rochut while also taking this new edition one step further. Piano accompaniments have always existed for these delightful etudes and Mr. Raph has now made them part of this new edition. On the included CD you will find PDF files of all of these piano accompaniments as well as superb MP3 recordings by pianist Rae Moses. Quelques éditions posthumes sont revenues sur cette décision; notre édition s’en tient cependant à six pièces dans l’opus 33, agencées dans l’ordre que Rachmaninov avait lui-même prévu pour la publication.
