A unique view of Llobet, as a champion and arranger of Sor. The Sor studies reproduced in facsimile are from Llobet's own library. In an interview in Barcelona in 1929, which is reproduced in full in this edition, Llobet announced his intention of preparing a new edition of the Sor studies. Judging by the density of his marking and copious added and altered fingering in this facsimile edition, he seemed in fact to be doing just this. Unfortunately, a new edition edited by him never came to fruition! We have prepared our facsimile edition of these later printings of Simrock editions (a gift from Erwin Schwarz-Reiflingen in 1928), carefully restoring the originals to make these pages clearer, so that not only is everything more legible, but most importantly, all of Llobet´s fingerings and amendments are clearly legible. In this volume dedicated to Sor, we have re-engraved for inclusion here all 6 of Llobet's very fine Sor transcriptions from La Guitarra in Argentina, fingered and arranged by Llobet.

With Repertoire spanning from the Baroque to contemporary eras, Recordings, Etudes, Technique, and Orchestral Excerpts, this comprehensive series serves as a balanced and organized pedagogical resource from the beginner to advanced levels of study. Nine progressive volumes of Repertoire expose students to original works and arrangements of diverse styles from W.A. Mozart to Violet Archer, with selected works by notable jazz artist Paul Desmon (Take Five), and living composer Phil Woods. Each level provides opportunities to explore Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary works, with original, unaccompanied selections from Levels 5 through 8 that use extended techniques such as multiphonics, key clicks, and bisbigliando. Albert Robert Mueller (Muller) was a German trombonist born in 1849. He initially received violin lessons and discovered his talent for trombone playing at the age of twelve. He eventually settled in Leipzig and became a member of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra as well as a teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music. He wrote the School for Trombone in 1902. (Wikipedia) The School for Trombone (part of our Vintage Brass Series, not to be confused with the Technical Etudes) is a very detailed and comprehensive book in three volumes totalling 208 pages, the text being divided into German, English and Russian languages. * Volume I includes detailed lessons on music theory including all scales and keys, rhythm, time signatures, rests, accents, accidentals, explanations of tempo markings, dynamics, posture, tone, a table of positions and notes. The lessons go through different keys starting very slowly and methodically with short exercises....not going too fast for the beginning student. Along the way Mueller inserts easy duets to perform with teacher and student, including many Bach chorales, etc. to get tuning and tone solidified. * Volume II for the intermediate level student, begins with the first studies of slurs and legato. He introduces simple songs and famous melodies including more duets. The exercises get progressively more difficult and include the entire collection of ornaments. * Volume III, for the more advanced student, introduces tenor and alto clefs in scales and studies including more duets. Compiled by Gordon Cherry.

The word Mikrokosmos may be interpreted as a series of pieces in many different styles, representing a small world. Or it may be interpreted as world of the little ones, the children.
