Composed in 2012, these short piano compositions are intended for beginner through intermediate beginner levels. They are written using a variety of harmonic flavors such as modality, diatonicism, and free dissonance. These pieces can be played individually or preferably, as a set. Each work contains a descriptive title depicting a different mood or scene. From the first modal piece, Strolling Along to the wrapping notes of Raindrops, to the intense dissonances of Summer Storm and The Man at The Gate, there is something for everyone in this fun collection of short pieces. The composer would like to thank JungEun Hong for her editorial assistance in preparing these pieces for publication.

The present collection consists of a number of petty compositions most of which are within easy reach by young pianists of an intermediate technical level. In a lot of compositions for pianoforte, Mr Martinu has had himself inspired by children's world; he has been very close to children's imagination in a few cycles of miniatures for piano, especially in his three books of Puppets, as well as in Fables, Compositions for Children etc. Even his compositions of simple instrumental stylization possess a musical invention and an interesting musical description, such as the merry onomatopoeic trifle A Procession of Cats at Solstice Night. Little Eve's Composition and Contemplation, both of which were published in 1935 and 1936 in the music supplement to the magazine Eva, are educationally and musically priceless for young pianists with whom they arouse a sense for a modern expression. A touching meditation for piano are the Recollections, a small recital composition of 1957, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of the Brno composer Vaclav Kapral. lt is dedicated both to his and his gifted daughter Vitezslava Kapralova's memory. Prelude and another composition without name are two remarkable achievements of young Mr Martinu. Even without looking at the date of origin, 1924, it may be easily recognized from the character of music that they are congenial to the recent stimulations of the Paris avantgarde of the twenties-both rhythmically and harmonically.

This album contains fifteen easy compositions for piano solo, inspired by the city: from honking cars, and dark alleys to imposing skyscrapers…one of the pieces is even based on mobile phone ringtones. The album is aimed at students who have beenplaying the piano for three to four years; the level of difficulty varies for each piece some are slightly easier, or trickier, than the others. Each work has its own specific mood and style, and where possible I have also tried to incorporatevarious techniques or characters within one composition. This music would make a suitable competition selection, as well as appropriate concert or exam pieces. Having won many prizes at the Paris Conservatoire during the 1920s-1930s, Eugene Bozza went on to conduct the orchestra of the Opera-Comique and to become Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes. As a major figure on the classical music frontline, Bozza's compositions were well-received by audiences, 10 Easy Pieces for Violin and Piano being no exception. This collection of Bozza pieces is suitable for beginner violinists. The third piece, Minuet Pages, is chirpy and graceful, displaying the typical features of a minuet. As music educationalist, Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions, his works reveal melodic fluency, elegance of structure and a consistently sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities..

The present series of easy piano music for teaching provides pupils in the lower and lower-middle grades with a careful selection of well-known and little-known compositions by important masters. Each book has intentionally been kept small in extent, since it is more stimulating for children to change the teaching material frequently. Mozart was in London with his parents and his sister from April 1764 to July 1765. As well as performing in concerts as a child prodigy, he composed works for various instruments and combinations. A sketch-book dating from this period (EB 3276, published in full by Georg Schunemann) contains more than 40 compositions, chiefly for piano (KV 15 a - 15 ss). The works published here have been chosen with regard to their musical and technical suitability for pupils in the lower grades. Obvious notational errors have been corrected; tempo indications and marks of expression have been supplied where necessary by the editor. In certain pieces, Mozart himself specified the performance indications (as, for example, in the case of the varying articulations in no. 9). Heinz Walter, Salzburg, Fall 1974.

This series of easy piano music for teaching purposes presents pupils in the lower and lower middle grades with a carefully chosen selection of well-known and lesser-known compositions by important masters. The volumes are deliberately kept small in extent, since it is more stimulating for children to change the teaching material frequently. There are four existing harpsichord books with a total of 226 compositions by Francois Couperin le Grand (1668 -1733). His works are as unknown to pianists as they are famous among harpsichord players. The grace and imaginativeness of his works lend themselves especially well to the sound of the harpsichord, which is why the piano interpretation of works by Couperin, Rameau, Scarlatti and other composers of that time has been categorically rejected. But, after all, the works of Bach and Handel were written for the haipsichord and clavichord, and no one would dare question their intetpretation on the pianoforte. In order to introduce these lmpressionists of the Baroque Era to piano instruction, the editor has added to this series a folio of both Couperin's and Rameau's (EB 8033) music. The selection of the pieces is based on two criteria: 1. relatively modest demands made on technique, 2. various musical forms of expression. The Butterflies and the Windmills are both especially typical of masterful character pieces. The demands made on technique certainly correspond to a level of moderate difficulty. The simplifications made are restricted to the artistically realized twopart accompaniment (eg. p. 4 f. and p. 8 f.) with regard to finger stretch and to the profuse ornamentation of the original. The indications for phrasing and articulation are those of the editor. The first two pieces have been precisely elaborated on in this respect to serve as a model, whereas the remaining pieces contain only suggestions. As in other folios of this series; what is here to be stressed, is the importance of working out independently the phrasing and the dynamics. Directions for this are given by the respective footnotes; these directions, however, are not obligatory. lndications pertaining to dynamics and tempo have been omitted completely; the clearly recognizable character of the individual pieces should be direction enough. The tonal possibilities of the piano should in any case be used subtly. The very precise fingerings have been adapted to the suggested phrasings and to the corresponding realization of trills (according to the table). Heinz Walter, Salzburg, Spring 1980.
